Bodily Function Post/question..you Have Been Warned!

Recommended Posts

Ok...I am having issues with diarrhea. Yes I am now lactose intolerant but I have eliminated all dairy...some days are good..and some days...I can't be far from a bathroom. I thought Constipation was a huge worry..but apparently I don't have to worry about. Where you told the same thing and is anyone having the same issue or had the same issue and does it get better with time? I am 1 month out today.

I am over 4 months out and have same issue. I am afraid to eat when I am out unless there is a bathroom VERY CLOSE! I have become paranoid when I go places and now want to know how far restrooms are. I too was expecting the Constipation but not this...I also have become lastose intolerant since surgery as well I cannot handle ANY of the Protein drinks...As far as I can tell no relief in sight...I use the pepto max to help settle it down when it is worse than other days. Temporary solution...

I went through this phase to. It passes and I found out it was some of the soft foods I had been eating with artifical sweeteners (for me it was sugar free pudding) that were causing the issue

Interesting, as I am experiencing the same. I didn't think of the sweeteners. NUT told me if I was using high quality Protein Powder, it shouldn't be that. Maybe it's the milk, although I didn't have any most of the day and still diarrhea. But the sweeteners, hmmmm. Any particular sweetener worse than others?

I have dumping syndrome (from not having a gallbladder). My doc thought it would ease up after my surgery, but it didn't (although it is not as common with the sleeve as it is with the by-pass, you can have dumping syndrome). It is not always the case that it is triggered by carbs either. Some people have what is called "over-digestion" and ingestion of ANYTHING can cause dumping. I have it with just water! Some people's bodies adjust over time and some do not. My doc prescribed a drug called Questran. It is a Rx drug that looks like Metimucil. You sprinkle the little packet into a little liquid and swallow it. It thickens on the inside, absorbs some of the digestive juices and slows the exit of contents. I used to go to the restroom as many as 10x a day. If it doesn't ease up for you soon, you might ask for a trial of it. I know what it is like to be afraid to go out. I was that way for years. Hope you get better.

I think this is pretty common. Especially early on. However certain foods may be triggering it as well. Some people (myself included) find the foods their body can tolerate change after surgery, unfortunately it is a bit of a matter of trial and error.

Now I have located my triggers it is alot better, tho sometimes I will still eat someting that will cause it.

If you are really worried you speak to your doctor.

Thanks for all the advice..maybe I will get better. I can say fir certain I don't go ten times per day to but I have to watch passing gas...I wouldn't dare do it with being in the bathroom for fear of messing myself. That should be addressed more frequently with the dr's than they actually do. Constipation was the emphasis...not diarrhea with the sleeve...

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
