Omg All Booked And Ready To Go... Why Am I Freaking Out.

Recommended Posts

I am booked for vsg May 21 in Mexico. I am paying for this myself. Over the past 6 months I have researched all the good and bad with a sleeve. I realize the bad is very minimal but I can't seem to stop focusing on it. I keep thinking "Knowing my luck I will suffer all the problems anyone has ever mentioned."

Some questions I have

1. How long is the risk of a leak possisble? When are we fully healed?

2. How long off of work? I am a dental hygienist and plan on being back to work 1 week post-op.

I have more questions but cant remember them right now so as they come to me I will post more.

Not sure about the leak question.

I had to take a month's time off from work. I was very fatigued during the first 3 weks. I needed mid-day naps to energize myself. But I know a couple of my doc's patients who recovered very fast. They got back to work in like 15 days.

Hope you have a safe surgery, speedy recovery and awesome weight loss! :)

I went back to work at 1 week post opt. You just have to be careful with the incisions as they heal..I also went ot Mexico, Dr. Aceves...OMG he is awesome! I have had ZERO pain and ZERO complications....

I am just almost 8 weeks out and have lost 60#'s

Good Luck with your surgery!

God Bless

I'm pre-op, but I've read of people back after 4 days. I've been told that my surgeon recommends two weeks. I have a very supportive boss, who says: "This is about your health - you will take as much time as you need!"

I am uninformed on leaks... though I'm guessing that the period of time between surgery and being cleared for whole foods (not mushies) would be an indicator.

Mkardh...who is your doctor? Is it Aceves by any chance? If so, I'm also scheduled with him on May 21! I know there's someone else coming in at the same time, and I'd told Nina to give them my email address. If it's you, let me know! Either way, since we're tracking on the same date, if you're interested I've started some video posts on YouTube under the name gastricsleeve4me. www.youtube.com/user/gastricsleeve4me. I just started posting, but have been discussing my journey and concerns if that sounds interesting.

Regardless, best of luck...it's going to be great!

I have read the risk of leaks is minimal after 6 weeks. But I think it is a good question to ask your doctor the morning of when he comes in right before surgery. I am a stay at home mom(of 3 kids, 9 yr old, 3 yr old, and 18mth old ) and really after the first week I was ok...My husband stayed home until nap time and then went to work the second week and my oldest helped after nap time. But for the most part I was fine. Couldnt lift my kids until 4 weeks. I would say you will be ok if you dont lean from a standing position too much...if you do most of your work sitting I think you will be ok. I wouldnt plan on much after work though! It is so normal to worry pre-0p. I couldnt sleep at all the night before my surgery but when I got to the hospital that morning I was very calm. Blessings to you!

I went to a seminar and the surgeon said the beauty of a sleeve over other options is that if you are going to have a complication (I.e. leak) it will almost always be within 30 days of the surgery. He alluded that leaks were fairly rare. I'm new and just getting started with my journey so I don't know a lot!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
