How To See Myself As What I've Never Been?

Recommended Posts

Thin!!!!!!!!!

I was in a size 14 at the age 12 & only kept going. I have never been thin or felt beautiful or happy with the way I looked. I am so excited & ready but I just can't see myself other than a plus size.

I long to go in a regular store & be able to wear most of the stuff in there but I can't picture myself that way. I think about it often but part of me keeps saying you'll never get there you are always going to be FAT!

On a plus side I'm down 24lbs at my 4 week appointment.

Congrats! You are doing wonderful. I also could never imagine myself thin. I am not by no means now but I am smaller now than I have been in 10 years. I still have 50 lbs to go. Everyday someone is mentioning or saying something about my weight loss. It really is so strange to me. I really do not know how to react. I recall a few weeks ago that someone said "wow, you look great" and I looked behind me to see who they were speaking to. I can not imagine being a normal weight. I still have 50 lbs to lose and by no means am thin. I am only 5'3 so even with 50 more off of me I could still use to lose a few more.

You will adjust, enjoy the ride. It is awesome. I still can't imagine being with out a weight problem.. Sometimes I try the same clothes on day after day because I can not believe I really fit in them. Like I am going to get up and wake up from this fantastic dream ride I have been on. I believe emotionally I will have to experience for a long time b/c I have been big my entire life. It is unreal to me. I am on cloud nine and so will you also. It only gets better. The more I lose the more excited and motivated I get.

Best to you :). Sorry I went on and on, your topic really hit home with me.

There's a fair amount of psychological research about "Fake it 'til you make it." That is, if you're shy, make yourself talk to people; if you're a bad cook, cook lots and you'll improve...you get the idea. I suggest you pick a role model--Audrey Hepburn? Marilyn Monroe? Start to adapt some of their posture and movement into yours. I noticed that I never raised my hands above my head (afraid of showing big arms, sweat stains, and just appearing bigger) and kept my hands folded over my fat stomach. Now I sit with arms outstretched sometimes and dance at home. Also, if you can get someone to draw your outline on the back of wrapping paper or on a mirror, you can update that periodically and see how your figure is shrinking. Take your measurements and find what size you wear on a website like Land's End. Although there will be differences in manufacturers you will have somewhere to start. It's been a great journey for me, hope yours is too.

There's a website where you can actually visualize the difference in your body (for gals, don't know about for guys). It's http://api.modelmydiet.com/women You can compare the two models on the page. Set one at your high weight and one at your goal weight, or current weight and look at the differences. It's amazing! :)

Must confess I feel the same. Now that I am stalling I question weather I will lose weight at all.I feel that I am already failing and that I will just always be fat and ugly but without a full stomach.

This thing about fake it until you make it sounds great to me and this is going to be my motto from this moment.

I will get thin and the quality of my life will be much better.

xxo

I so hear you! I started dieting at 9yrs old and have felt fat for more than 3/4 of my life. I'm 5-7 and in high school I think I was as low as 140 (was also a barfer), then in my late 20s I was my healthiest at about 170. I hit my 30s and just sort of gave up the fight (and it was a constant fight).

Currently, I'm inching down toward 210 and am struggling with how different my body looks at this weight again. It's amazing the impact 10 years and a baby have on a girl's form and not necessarily an amazing I'm embracing... :/ But I feel so much better and can do much more with my son which was my goal. So I'll just have to try to let my vanity go.

I'm smaller than I have ever been in my adult life, currently in size 12/14 and L shirts (I'm 6'2" and curvy). I thought it would feel strange. It doesn't--it feels WONDERFUL! I feel like this is "me," if that makes sense, and that I've been set free from my fat suit--that wasn't really "me." I still do not recognize myself when I catch sight of my reflection, and I still can't gauge my size appropriately for clothing--you know how all size 12's are NOT the same! But hopefully my brain will catch up with my new shape at some point. I may always feel like "the fat girl," but maybe I won't. :-)

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
