Nope. My doctor actually does not recommend them to his patients. Instead I have a couple of things: I carry the ID card he gave me just behind my driver's license in my purse and, under ICE in my cell phone I have 2 listings. One is for my emergency contact person and the other says SEE NOTES SECTION FOR MEDICAL INFO. Under the notes on my iPhone, I have listed my medications, my surgery and the information specific to my sleeve (date, doctor name and number, bougie size and NO BLIND NG TUBES). Actually, once we're healed, the NG tube thing isn't as important, but I haven't deleted it.

I never even thought about this! Why might this be necessary and/or important?

I dont even remember the exact reason why the doc said I should get it. But it was something along the lines of when you had some sort of trauma and they insert a tube in you it could so damage because your anatomy is different! Something like that!

if for some reason you are in a car accident or in a trauma. you will be intubated (put on a breathing machine) and when they do that they will also put a tube to your stomach to keep it empty (so you dont vomit and it gets into your lungs and get a pnemonia. if they placed an NG/OG tube blind (the normal way) they could cause trauma to the sleeve.

I need to get one ASAP... I'm allergic to Penicillin, iodine and shellfish...

There is also a problem with steroids. I have retinal leaks and was already told by my retinal specialist to avoid them and my surgeon said to avoid them as well. I need to ask him why, because I don't remember what he said. I was so nervous when I spoke to him that it all flew out of my head.

Thanks for the info. I honestly did not know this. Maybe I'll be ordering a medical Bracelet soon.

My Bariatric team required I get one.....was part of my discharge instructions. Maybe a little pushy but I know they only have my health and safety in mind.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
