My situation is similar to yours. I took out a personal loan to pay for my surgery and was afarid some of it might get spent or something might come up and then the money not be there. I wanted to pre pay but was afarid to so I'm interested in any response you may get. My suggestion would be to go to a bank and get a cash advance with the credit card. You can even call the number on the back and they will deposit it into your account for you without ever going to the bank. Then you could either put it in a savings account till its surgery time or go ahead and get your cashiers check to pay the balance. I'd love to know when your surgery is. Im mexico bound myself. May 28th with Dr. Garcia. sooooo excited!!!

I don't think the credit card company will find out that you don't have a job. They only care when you stop paying the bill. I would ask a lot of questions about the surgeon's refund policy if you decide to pay in advance--I have heard that it's sometimes hard to get deposits returned, to say nothing of the whole surgical fee, and sometimes situations happen that delay or cancel trips--I had gallbladder surgery and had to cancel a trip to Costa Rica at the last minute. If you do decide to pay in advance, get trip insurance just in case. It's pretty cheap for peace of mind.

I did my surgery with Dr. Aceves and flew from Germany to do it. I paid by bank check more than two months before my surgery. There was no problem and my surgeon was just as awesome as I thought he'd be.

You could go either way on this. I'm sure there won't be an issue with them allowing the charge, provided you called and told them you're going to be in Mexico (so they don't deny the charge thinking it's fraudulent). You could also call your surgeon and pay now just to have the peace of mind.

Most of the surgeons either here in the U.S. or abroad and paying cash require payment in advance. I gues they do not want us filing bankruptcy on them.

I got a loan from the bank for my surgery in MX. I paid in advance ( my surgery isnt until May 25th). I feel like its one less thing to worry about. I know I can get a full refund if I change my mind within 7 days of the surgery. I like having the peace of mind. Thats just me though. If you have a problem keeping money in the bank (like me!) then its probably a good idea to pay in advance, just find out the refund policy of your surgeon. Good Luck!!

I only paid a $500 in advance with alighterme/obesityhelpinternational with Garcia in Mexico but I feel like if I would have paid the full amount, I would have been given a refund if I cancelled. Hopefully you will figure out what you need to do... And you will have one less thing to worry about! Good luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
