Feb 2012- How Are You Doing?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 2/6/12 so I'm close to hitting 2 months out. I've lost 33lbs so far with absolutely NO exercise (I had some serious post op complications but now I can get back into the swing of things!), no low carbing, and not being afraid to have a bite of cake or a few M&M's. It seems like a lot in terms of actual numbers- but at the same time I feel a little disappointed that it wasn't MOOOORE! I was hoping to have lost 50lbs by the 13th but I think I'm just going to have to accept that because of the diet choices I have made and will continue to make, my weight loss is going to be slow and steady as opposed to rapid and thrilling.

I still haven't dropped any clothing sizes yet but I can feel I have a little bit more room in certain shirts. Pants don't feel too much different yet :(

All in all I feel great. I can eat anything I feel like eating (except for rice. For whatever reason I am scared to death to even attempt to eat rice of any sort so I've completely axed that from my diet!) and have really good restriction. I can no longer sip Water during a meal because it REALLY hurts! At first it didn't bother me in the least so obviously as my sleeve heals I'm getting a greater and greater sensation of fullness.

How are my fellow Feb sleevers doing??

2/13 here. I am doing well. Maybe TOO well. If "sleeve of steel" wasn't taken already, I think I'd change my name here! Unfortunately, NOTHING bothers my stomach except those rotten chewable vitamins from Bariatric Advantage. My capacity increased way too quickly for my liking. I am hungry all the time unless i've JUST eaten, so I have to be super duper careful. I too wanted fast and thrilling, since I started at 340. I think I've lost somewhere in the neighborhood of 45 if you count some pre op diet pounds. My scale is acting weird, and the scale at the gym says I've lost more than the one at home. I've only lost about 4 pounds in the last month, according to my wonky home scale. I go to the gym 3 times a week and do cardio and weight lifting. (Maybe I'm gaining muscle?) So....anyway....doing well. I'm just very very impatient.

2-9-12. Currently have lost 39 pounds but have been stalled for the past week or so. Frustrating to say the least!! Especially since Biggest thing this week is that I am back to travelling for my job- I have been lucky to be able to work at home for the 7 weeks post op. Last night for dinner I had a baked potatoe from Wendys with low fat sourcream and my ever present crystal lite. Might get harder today, as I will be in meetings all day with other people. Might try either just some Soup or a salad for lunch. But, I have to admit that I am feeling pretty good physically!

I'm 1/30, so not technically a Feb. 12 sleever, but I feel I bonded with you guys pre-op because my original date was 2/6 (got bumped up). Life is feeling pretty normal, albeit a new normal. I feel completely healed and my mind is catching up with the physical progress I'm making. The weirdest thing has been having my eyes learn to match my new stomach capacity. I still have to stop when measuring out food to remember what is the appropriate portion size. My old way was to pile stuff on and then eat everything on my plate. I still am a eat-everything-on-your-plate person (working really hard on slowing down and listening to the full feeling), so I use a cup size mug to eat out of accompanied by a baby spoon. I've had a couple of instances of eating something that hit my stomach and and came right back up. But I'm so happy with how everything is going. I feel very lucky to have been complication-free.

I was sleeved on 2/14/12. I've had no problems at all post-op. It seems like I can eat pretty much anything I want to eat. I haven't tried rice yet because I am also a little scared of rice. Sometimes my restriction feels small and then other times I feel like maybe I can eat too much. I'm doing really well as far as paying attention to not over stuffing myself and knowing when to stop. I think my loss has been slow but of course my doc says I'm doing fine. He told me I have to eat 1000 calories a day to lose weight but somedays that's hard to do when your trying to make healthy choices or you're on the go. So far I've lost 20 pounds since surgery. Wish it was more but I know I've lost lots of inches. I'm down 2 sizes in clothes and when my fiance hugged me this morning he said I was melting away. That feels soooo good! :)

I'm down 36 pounds, 4 sizes in pants and 2 sizes in tops since surgery on 2/14/12. I've hit 3 stalls since surgery and I'm really having a hard time with carb cravings. My fiance just had his surgery on Tuesday so I'm hoping we can both keep each other on track.

2/20 was my date - Sunday was my three month surgiversary, I usually weigh on Saturday mornings, so last week my amount lost was 49.8 lbs. I can pretty much eat anything, and I feel hungry about an hour after I eat if I eat fruit, which I usually have for Breakfast. So I guess I will need to make sure I eat Protein at every meal. I have been excercising sporadically, I joined a bootcamp a month ago, but last week my outdoor allergies were severe so I've missed a few workouts.

Quickly approaching the 4th month mark and doing great. Down from a size 22 to a 16 so I can now buy clothes from more stores which is great. My sleeve seems to like everything which is a blessing and a curse. The only thing I regrete is not getting my sleeve earlier!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
