Nervous About Surgery

Recommended Posts

I found out today my surgery is scheduled for 4/4 my insurance approved it quickly which is a good thing. I just discovered this web site today. I am hoping I can get feedback on what to expect. I am looking forward to.the surgery and after reading about the different surgery options I though this was the best for me.

I was excited about the surgery until just a few days before I had it and then I became nervous. I had a great presurgery meeting where I was able to talk about the surgery with a nurse from the floor, and she really explained how everything worked at the hospital. If you can do this, I highly recommend it.

My surgery went well. I haven't had any problems. I spent three days in the hospital (normal for my doctor). My pain was pretty minimal. I had gas pain the first day, but I quit taking pain pills that night.

When I first came back to my room after my surgery, I was pretty out of it. My husband was there, and he became very concerned. He said I looked like death warmed over. My blood pressure was in the 40s and 50s and kept setting off alarms when it fell too low. Within a couple of hours, I was doing much better and even walking around.

You will be so glad you that you did it! This was hand's down the best decision I have ever made. It can be a little nerve racking in the days pre-op, but it will be so worth it. I haven't had any problems. The only pain I had post-op were stomach spasms the first week or so. But that's what the sleepy pills are for :) Good luck!

Different amounts of time for different people and/or surgeons. You're in the right place. Read all the posts that you can, ask all of the questions that you want. This site is a great source for support.

The hospital times and diet requirements seem to be all over the place depending on your surgeon. Where I had my surgery seemed to be very cautious on all requirements. My post-op diet was very slow. I believe I was on liquids and Proteins for 8 weeks.

I can't complain though. My surgery experience was wonderful. I have never had any problems, and I haven't had to throw up since my surgery. For me, taking the food slowly afterwards worked well. It was much easier to be on a liquid diet after surgery than it was before surgery though.

I went back at 10 days. I still have swelling and soreness in my belly, especially if I do too much. I had my surgery at an outpatient surgery center. Check in at 0800, walked out at 230 in the afternoon. First couple days were rough. I didn't take any pain meds after day 3. Went the next day for my leak test, esophogram (the only time I vomited). Went the day after that to have my drain taken out. Keep reading all the experiences of people, they vary greatly.

I've been having second thoughts lately. I'm getting too close to my surgery date. I think I'm getting wet feet. I'm scared.

I'm having surgery the 3rd and am going back to work on the 9th. I will be sitting ALL day, though - NO heavy lifting or ANYTHING - will only be working 5 hours Monday - Wednesday the week after, so I'm hoping w/this explanation, the surgeon will release me back to work. Craaazy.

My husband is taking my surgery day (3) through the 9th off, so that is also very helpful. :)

I'm scared, too, honestly. I'm scared of needles - of pain - of the catheter - of the sore throat - of the drain - but I'm scared to die & be overweight w/health problems (in the future) more...

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
