5 Weeks Po & You Wouldn't Know It

Recommended Posts

Well, other than the horrible acid (yes I have a daily rx), and the severe nausea from Vitamins (which dr said I could stop for a few weeks &he gave me a B12 shot to hold me over), and the insomnia which cause severe tiredness around dinner time... After all that... I would not know I've had a sleeve surgery.

Sure I'm full faster but eating a few ounces several times a day is way harder than three meals a day. It's hard to go anywhere and manage the right foods.

I lost 8lbs the first week, 3 the next Rhein gained 3 the third week. Lost two if those the 4th and one the 5th. So overall I'm back to the -11lb lost I had on my ten day post op.

It's a frustrating thing.

I'm eating what my nut says and exercising (not weights tip cause I had a stran in my stomach from my muscle that was cut and not healing correctly, do was told to wait 8weeks for strenuous or weight exercise).

I'm getting in my Protein and drOwning in my Water... So I'm doing what I need to.... But my body isn't.

Over a long (long long) stretch I do feel that I'll loose. But it's hard to be seeing and reading all the fast and over wheeling success everyone has and I see that I'm $20 thousand dollars (cash) in the hole and feel like crap everytime I eat and I'm not enjoying eating out and miss my Friday night drinks with my hubby.

I hear everyone say they have total New found energy And the lack of energy I have makes me feel broken.

Ok ok ok ... I'm done venting.... Just really need to see if anyone else isn't making big strides either? Or am I just doing it all wrong?

I am 4 weeks post op and one thing I can say is I cant measure my recovery or weight loss by others. I had bad acid before the surgery and after the surgery it has increased. So i take twice as much previcid then before. Like you I thought I would have all this energy because I read post's were people had all this energy. Nope, just draging. Not able to get all my fluids in and went to ER for hydration. Only able to eat a couple of oz of food a day. All I can say is it has to get better as time go by.... and it will. Your weight will start to drop, and stay off. I think our bodies are still adjusting to the surgery. You didnt spend your $20k in vain.

My, I do agree thy in time it will slowly work in my favor. With such little calories it has to!!!:-)

It's hard to not wonder if I made a mistake as this is less success than Jenny Craig But then it hits me I gained double that back by over indulging when I couldn't stand depriving myself. At least it hurts to do so which throws the stop switch that says "whoa slow down and don't eat or drink that cause it's not good for you and will actually hurt u"

I mean that's a in time habit and will pass in time.

Patience is my new friend.. We don't get along well but I'm learning to live with it;-)

I too was frustrated with how exhausted I felt after surgery. There were days where it literally took me an hour to talk myself out of bed. And the mood swings! OH BOY! However, I'm almost 4 months out and thankfully my energy levels have returned and started to right around the 3 month mark. It may have taken me longer to recover because I work full time as well as go to school full time, and try to manage my family life on top of having recently had surgery.. Or it could be due to the fact that my doctors office had me taking the wrong Vitamins for nearly 3 months. But today I feel fantastic! The weight loss WILL happen!!

At 5 weeks I was the same as you with the weight loss. I consistently lost an average of 2-3 lbs per week. It is hard right after surgery to see such small drops, but I promise it adds up and pretty soon you'll be able to see the weight loss and it will be so worth it for you.

As for energy, again, I didn't have any sudden surge of energy before the 3 month mark. You are still healing right now, so try to give your body a little lee-way (sp?). You are doing great so far and it will pay off!

Teambrown4,

I know exactly how you are feeling. I'm 6 weeks post-op today. I lost 12 pounds the first week and then nothing during weeks 2 & 3. The scale was just up and down a pound or 2 and that was it. I started to think why did I go through this when I could have lost like this on Weight Watchers!

I had a post-op visit with my surgeon on the 15th and told him I thought my weight loss was too slow. I thought the first month or so would be my biggest loss. He told me I had to eat at least 1000 calories a day to lose weight. I was only getting 600 to 800 a day. He also said to exercise at least 30 minutes because after 15 minutes is when you burn calories.

I haven't had any problems with food, my sleeve hasn't rejected anything so far and I've never felt sick or vomited since surgery. I do feel tired somedays but if I make myself excercise I feel better. So, I eat 6 times a day and use myfitnesspal.com to make sure I eat at least 1000 calories a day, I get at least 60 grams of Protein and try to get at least 48 ounces of liquids. Since I up'd my calories I've lost 6 pounds in 10 days! It feels great to finally see some success on the scale. Also, I had to buy new bras (2 inches smaller around) and I'm down 2 sizes is pants. Even when the scale doesn't show it we will lose inches. I know it can be discouraging but keep the faith. :)

I was really tired for the first two months or so. I had some small stalls as my body adjusted to losing. It takes time for your body to decide to let it go. Its hard to be patient but if you hang in there, you will love your sleeve and the weight will find its way off. I am at the stairstep stage now at nearly 8 months out. I stay the same sometimes for a couple of weeks and then I will drop again. Its when my body decides its okay for it to let it go. You cannot control that. I dont believe in the eat a 1000 calories a day thing. That is still impossible for me to do if I am going to eat right. I cant hold that much. I have done just fine and I have lost nearly 80 pounds so far. I just keep keeping on, even if I dont lose for a week or so.

I had a kidney stone and 2 weeks post op and was operated on again to put a stent in my kidney. The Fluid they pushed all week made me gain all the weight I had lost plus some. it took another week or two to get that off so I started a month behind the curve. I didnt let it get me down. I just keep on keeping on. Good luck and dont worry so much about it. Do your best and dont try to get in a whole bunch of calories.. thats my advice.

Believe what you want to but it's working for me. It's not too hard to eat 1000 calories when you eat 6 times a day focus on Protein.< /p>

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
