Pregnancy After Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hey all! I'm 24 and married and me and my husband are ready to start trying for kids. When I decided to do the surgery I went back and forth on whether I wanted to try and get pregnant first or have surgery first. I decided for surgery because my weight could harm me and a baby during pregnancy. That being said---How long do I need to wait after surgery to get pregnant? I know at the very least 6 months, but after that is it fair game? Also, does the sleeve cause any additional problems when it comes to getting enough food and nutrition for your baby?

I believe a year to 18 months is recommended.

I was also told 18 months and that you should not follow a low carb lifestyle once you're begin trying to conceive as this is very harmful to a fetus. Also, my surgeon said 18 months but my OB/GYN added that she wanted 18 months with three months of no weightloss prior to starting to try to conceive.

I was told 18 months also. This ensures you are out of rapid weight loss and makes it safe for you and the baby.

I am in the same boat as you--we want to start out family ASAP. I was told 12-18 months, but that being said, he also told me that there is no harm to the fetus if I get pregnant before-- it is that you won't lose the weight as intended if you get pregnant (you won't get to goal). 12 to 18 months is the golden time for you to lose the excess weight.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
