I was sleeved on 1/30. Now that I am starting to get to eat some solids I am wondering how in the world does anyone get all their Protein and fluids in? I wait 30 minutes before and after eating to drink. So that takes out at least three hours a day that I am not getting any liquids in. Does anyone eat Protein Bars? If so, how often is it okay to eat them? I just really need a break from the Protein shakes and Protein Shots if at all possible right now. I get full so fast that I am afraid if I try to get all the Protein in that I will be grazing all day and sure don't want to get into that habit. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

But what a great problem to have..I would never have thought I could have trouble eating enough food in a given day! :)

As time goes by, it gets easier!!! I am almost 4 months out and am at a point where getting my Protein in each day is not a problem at all. But I still supplement with liquid and Protein Bars daily...otherwise I wouldn't be able to get it in. I have a routine: 1/2 Power Crunch bar prior to my 6am workout, the other 1/2 when I get back, 8 oz of Syntrax Nectar Cappacinno about a 1/2 later, another Power Crunch bar for a snack during the day and a chocolate Premier Protein shake right before bed. So that's about 75 grams of protein not including the protein I get from my food. I aim for no less than 100 grams per day. Also, getting to this point was a struggle. It took me a while to find the drinks and bars that I liked.....because finding something you like (not just tolerate), I think, is the key to sticking to it. As far as fluids....I drink Powerade Zero and Iced tea all day and I keep it on my nightstand so that I can drink if I wake up in the middle of the night too.

I've had the same problem. So, last night, I Googled, "diet for sleeve surgery". Check out: the site for Cornell and Northwestern. I think it was NW that had a great schedule to follow to get in your Protein.

I also bought "Pure Protein" bars at costco yesterday. They are very good and have 25 grams of Protein. I will make that part of my day, too. I've told myself I need to drink half of an Isopure every day. Not so easy. ) :

I went from less than 50 grams a day to yesterday had my best day and had 72 grams. Yeah!!!!

I went to MuscleMax and got some flavored Very berry drink mix that is high in Protein. This cut down the number of shakes and it was like drinking a fruit drink and not chocolate, vanilla or strawberry plus it was good over ice. I only wait 30 minutes prior to and after eating a meal to have some liquids so I imagine it depends on what your NUT or doctor tells you. It seems that there is a very wide opinion on many post op instructions that patients by different doctors are given. This applies to foods, exercise, work, drink, what to eat, what to drink, alcohol and many other things.

It can be a struggle on busy days. I haven't tried bars yet (too many carbs) but have been using mostly nitrate-free deli meats like chicken and turkey, mozzarella sticks, greek yogurt, shrimp, fish, roasted chicken and tofu. That plus two shakes a day around 25g each usually gets me close to 90g per day, but in keeping to around 600 calories per day. Also, I make SF Jell-O with unflavored Protein (Unjury) for mid-afternoon snack.< /p>

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
