Trying To Change My Life :)

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!!

So I have been reading all your stories for a couple of months and I finally grew a pair and decided to post my own story :)

I am 23 years old married with two kids, I have been through a lot with being a teenage mom and all, but I am proud to say that after years of struggling I graduated with my bachelors for registered nurse in June 2011. I always knew was overweight but put my health on the back burner because my family/kids and school were more important to me. Now have a good job and think it's time to concentrate on ME.

Luckily I don't have any health problems... YET. I work on a medical/surgical floor and I see SOOOO many people coming in for amputations and issues with their hearts and kidneys all because of diabetes and poor lifestyle choices. I NEVER want myself or my family to have to go through any of those issues so I'm doing this surgery to prevent those things. Besides, I'm pretty much a walking contradiction when I have to tell people to watch what they eat or exercise more when myself am overweight.... they look at me like 0_o

Anyway, my date is for 3/22 with Dr.Fedorka in so-cal. I'm super excited yet scared. My biggest obstacle is going to be dealing with baked goods, I eat something chocolaty/sweet about every other day but I actually like the taste of the chocolate Protein shakes, so I hoping that will satisfy my cravings :)

I can't wait to have more energy and fit into cute clothes/dresses and hopefully people will stop asking when the baby or babies are due.. I'M NOT PREGNANT! lol

Thanks for reading :)

We all wish you the best! I only wish I had the where-with-all to do it as early as you are doing it. I could of avoided DECADES of health issues and troubles.

Good luck!

Hi Cindy,

My surgery is Mar 20, I live in Canada so I have to go to Mexico to have it done. My doctor said that I am the perfect candidate because I am healthy "now" and in 10 years I won't be. I am 36 now and a single mom so I need to have as many healthy years as I can. Can't wait to start this new life but I don't have any rose coloured ideas that this is going to be easy, & I know I will miss my quart of ice cream a night. lol

I had my surgery in November and I've lost 58 pounds. It is a definite life changer, for the best. I wish I could have had it done at your age. You will be so happy with the awesome results.

SO young. I would not have risked it at 23 - but that would have been my 23, and this was all so new, our WLS was not even available!

Had I had your options, wow - 15 years. What could I have done with those years? lol!

I'm a nurse too and was having those same thoughts as I worked on the Med/Surg floor. So I get it! Good for you for seeing that it's your turn now. Congrats on your BS in Nursing! Way to go!! It's a TON of work and you did it! I'm glad that I had the sleeve, it has changed my life. Good luck in all that you do!

I have been a nurse for over 10 years. I don't work in med surg, but in a clinic doing patient ed and teaching on diabetes, weight loss, etc. At least my patients have not ever looked at me like it was crazy I was talking to them about these things, but I felt it. I too have been asked when my baby is due and I tell them 4 years ago (when my last daughter was born!). Congrats to you on your degree and on making the decision!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
