I Think That's It For Me? :(

Recommended Posts

Sunday was my five month surgiversary. I have not lost any weight since before Christmas. Luckily I haven't gained any either. I have lost 45 pounds since my surgery and I think I'm done losing weight. I'm okay with being a size ten, but the only thing is, I think I will be classified as a surgery failure, which kind of sucks.

I had hoped to get to 150, but after two months of no weight loss, I think that's it for me.

When did the long-timers out there finally plateau?

Failure? No, I think anything over 50% of excess weight shed is considered successful or at least average.

Another thing: No, you're not "done." You can lose weight as much as anybody can. Why don't you do that bootcamp thing. Go back on liquids to give the ol' body a shock. Eek girl. you're depressing me. You can do this.

I agree. You don't have to be done unless you want to be. Switch things up. Try a new exercise, change up the diet,...

Yes I agree. You might not be loosing weight since Dec. Are you eating carbs. I'm doing a diet where I keep my carbs at 5 carbs every 5 hours for 8 weeks. Then I will go to the next step. Try getting "The Metabolism Miracle." It makes alot of sense. Keep it simple, Protein, protein, protein, veggies, and lots of Water. Switch your exercise routine. You can do this and you will loose some more weight! Go girl! You can do this! ;) :banane58:

Are you working out? If not, you should be.

You're only done when you give up.

I thought I was done at 250, then I switched it up and cut out the carbs.

Then I thought I was done at 240, but I kicked up the exercise.

Now, at 216, I know that I have a LONG way to go before I'm "done." It has much more to do with my head than with my body.

Your surgery would not be considered a failure - you lost at least 50% of your excess weight.

If you want to lose more, you'll have to work harder - add in workouts, up Protein, lower carbs, up your calories, do a boot camp reset. Lots of options!

I was told by my surgeon that you can continue to lose weight from the surgery for up to two years. I agree with other posters...step up the exercise and go back to basics.

What I don't understand is this magical span of time that you can lose weight. Frankly i don't buy it. It's the same sleeve basically 9 months out that it would be 2 years out.

My doctor also said that according to statistic I will only be able to lose to 180. Yeah right. by 3 months i'm going to blow that one out of the Water.

Girl, don't you dare say you're done!!!! I am only 3 weeks out so I would kill to be a size 10 and u look awesome in your profile pic btw!!! Just cut the carbs and start exercising like crazy!! This is always how I lost weight before my sleeve, and it worked everytime! My problem was keeping up with it long enough to lose all my weight and then keep it off! But I know my sleeve was the tool I needed to lose it and KEEP it off. I believe if you combine LilMissDiva's Basic boot camp with some hardcore excercising, you'll have it off in no time, and come summer, your bod will thank you for it!

I'm where you are at time wise. I was told that there are longer stalls the closer you are to goal. I feel better when I exercise and it is good for you, but sometimes our bodies 'want' to stay at a comfort weight for awhile. I feel the stalls are a way to remind myself to keep to the basics to obtain the goal. Best wishes

Well I'm right there with you. But i'm 7 months out and been at a stall since Oct. 24th. I got to 179 that day. Today I'm at 172.6 But I've been as low as 171 on Jan. 15th, I just maintain basically around the same 2-3 lbs.

I haven't been on the forum in awhile, so this is why I'm back.....so what is this boot camp thing? shakes again?

I'm with cattracks on this one. There is no magical window of time with the sleeve. Seriously - we do NOT have the same limited window of malabsorption that bypass patients have. Your sleeve is going to stretch but not enough to make losing a problem. You'll have to work at it to gain a real amount of weight.

I stalled out around the mid 160s for close to nine weeks. I was sure I was done and would never see goal. I kept with it, fell of the wagon for a bit, and jumped back onto the right track after a while. And after plugging away I finally got a drop. A small one at first, then a big one. And here I am, sitting pretty at goal when I had been so sure before I couldn't lose anything else.

Make sure you're not in denial about your food intake. It happens to us when we get lax. Exercise is important but unless you really bring it every day you're not going to lose weight from exercise alone. It will make your skinny, at goal body look better, though, and it's great for your heart and overall health.

Keep with it. Some of us are slower losers. And let me tell you it took me better than SIX months to lose that last 20 pounds. I had two really long stalls and I'm glad I didn't give up or I'd still be wearing a size 12 instead of a size 6 - so please, hang in there.

Best of luck,

~Cheri

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
