Right Side Pain...all About Incision Site?

Recommended Posts

I'm having pain still (2 weeks post-op) and I wanted to see if this is relatively common with other folks. The pain has mostly centralized to the area of the biggest incision that got the most tugging (stomach removal, etc.). But it seems that there is pain radiating around to the right of that - around my side a little and towards my back. Could I have pulled a muscle there getting in and out of bed (always a little difficult)? I'm still getting used to all these new sensations and I can't tell if this is all internal or muscular...

I certainly don't want to scare you, because it's probably just your incision healing, but I had a very similar sensation for days before spiking a fever and finding out I had an infection in my stomach.

My incison on my central/right side was the worst one for me. It hurt like crazy for at least a month after surgery, it was really sore like a pulled muscle. I'd ask your surgeon about it just to make sure though. Mine told mine that that incision site took the brunt of everything lol. Hopefully it's nothing bad!!

I'm having similar pains but on my left side where there are two incisions. It's just sore and achy. My other incisions don't hurt, not even the big one. I hope it's just healing pains.

I went through this after surgery. I asked the nurses, the surgeon and my internal doc what it hurt so much and they said that it was because 1) that was the main incision site and 2) they had to cut the muscle and stitch it back together to get to my stomach during surgery-I think that's pretty normal. I also noticed it got worse if I exercised at all. Once I stopped that and coincidentally stopped taking the pain meds, that particular pain (very similar to what you describe) went away. I'm 4 weeks out and when I tried walking on the treadmill last week, it came back. My surgeon usually gets people exercising at 3 weeks but because of the pain from the muscle, they pushed me out to 4-6 weeks before exercising. This is just me though. I would ask your doc/surgeon.

My opinion: Call your doc if it feels like it is getting worse or you start running a temp. Otherwise, it probably is some soreness from the surgery. I had a pain there for weeks and also a pain in my left lower abdomen even though there wasn't an incision there. I think something got jiggled around and sore during surgery. I also had a couple of swollen areas on my tummy that slowly went down. I'm sure it was just the muscle or tissue under the skin that was a little irritated.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
