The second day was a little better but not much, then this morning I woke up and sat up in the chair the intern came by and after that I went for a walk did this several time my surgeon came by and asked me if i wanted to go home he also said I looked much better. Surgery went beautifully, one overnight stay and back home on the 2nd, sore of course but aside from the first time I sat up in the hospital there has been no nausea or vomiting, taking fluids and shakes/soups in intervals with added Protein Powder. (plain) also sugar free frozen pops for Fluid intake, had a slight headache the first three days now its subsided, small incisions largest is about 2 inches 4 total and one JP drain opening, pain is tolerable and have been able to walk up and down the block for mobility, Hope all my May sleevers and sleeve twins are doing equally as well <3 best of luck and wishes for speedy healing and safe surgeries to come

Glad you are doing well! I'm blessed to not have any pain thus far either! Today was the first day I got all 64 oz in.

I was sleeved on 5/1/12. Everything has gone really well. I spent 2 days in the hospital mostly because I wanted the rest and the IV for hydration. I did not have much pain and did not puke. My biggest issue as of today is not being able to tolerate crushed meds even though I've disguised in applesauce, yogurt, crystal light...and so on. I start to gag and can't complete. If anyone has recommendations, please let me know.

Deb, how big are your medications? If they are M&M size or smaller I would try to just take them straight with Water.< /p>

This was one of my biggest worries post-op, how to take my medications, as I normally gulp them down with water & realized I wouldn't be able to gulp afterwards! But I just practised taking one sip with one tablet & it went down! Amazed me that it did, but it did! So did that for all 3 of my meds I take.

But mine are all smaller than an m&m. If they are bigger, then you have to crush them, or I wonder if you could split them in half with a pill cutter & take half at a time with water?

I bought Bariatric Advantage chewables and sublinguals for most of my Vitamins, for my routine meds I take them scored into 4 small pieces with a pill cutter and take one small corner at a time, with a sip of shake or Water, it hasn't been too bad so far. good luck

Thanks for responding. I did try cutting into 4's this a.m. and was able to get it down. Worked much better than crushed!

Hey everyone! Can't believe May is actually here. It felt like such a long time when I scheduled my surgery back in February.

Glad to hear that all of you that have had surgery already are recovering well.

I have been kind of lucky because my pre-op only consists of a Atkins like week of eating. Giving up the wine has been harder. lol Anyhow, starting to get a little nervous that they are going to open me up and see that my band has eroded or something and won't be able to do surgery. I hope and pray this does not happen.

Just had to share this! My best buds got me out of the house today, we went to see The Avengers - IT'S A MUST SEE!!! But one of my friends traveled from out of town and was just blown away from the amount of weight I lost exercising prior to surgery. I started in October and kept it up until the day before surgery. Of course I couldn't see the difference, so they snapped a photo of me today and compared it to another photo of me....I still can't believe what I see...I lost 30lbs...Im just speechless...

hi all - tomorrow is my last dr appt - I see the nut, the insurance person and the surgeon. Also I am scheduled to take a 2 hour "Getting to know what to expect" class, this is in addition to the monthly "sleeve talk" meetings. I am taking the whole day off for this marathon. I've been working this for the insurance company since December and I really can't wait for this to be done and I am sleeved on May 22nd. I think I will be on a 2 week liquid diet since my family had a long history of fatty livers. I'm scared but truthfully, more than that I am so looking forward to the life changing act that I am about to do. I'm an older chick, but I don't want to wait another minute to start to this change my in life. Only the best to all my fellow May sleevers. Onward and (well, I would say upward, but for this I'll say) downward (scale-wise, I mean).

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
