Leederz, Thank you for sharing. The getting back to normal is one of my concerns. About a 1 year old I had a major surgery that took me over 6 six weeks to recover. I was kind of anxious about this surgery because I just was not sure if I would recover by the next day or if it was going to take me several weeks. But hearing that you are recovering so well it make me feel a lot better about it. As for the pain I am not so worry about it. As I said the 1 major surgery I had was so painful that if I can make it though that I can make it though anything. Again thanks for sharing.

No problem, honestly that was my main concern because I consider myself to have a very low pain tolerance but Im about 5 days out and have little to no pain mainly just some minor discomfort. I was so surprised to heal quickly but Im strictly sticking to doctors orders, make sure u sip sip sip all day on Water and go for walks every 2 hours. At first its hard to get up or down but within 2 days or so it gets easier and the more you do the better you feel =) I cant wait for everyone else to get their sleeve Im so excited you guys are going to love it <3

Aaeztive, I never lost the required weight and my nutritionist was constantly on me. Stating that if I did not lose the required weight I would not be approved for the surgery. Well, that was not true, I charted all of my active and foods and this was enough proof to satisfy the insurance company for appproval.

But from what I have read and seen from other within this forum. Alot of people lost a great deal of weight on the liquid diet prior to the surgery.

I have a question to those who have had their surgery. My doctor wants me start my liquid diet one-week prior to surgery. But in everything I read on this forum I notice that most are on a two-week liquid diet. I was wondering if I should put myself on a two-week liquid diet just to be sure my liver is completely empty or should I stick to the one-week.

I would follow the doctor's orders. I am a surgical PA and we have pts on a liquid diet for another surgery that requires us to "move the liver" out of the way. Our diet is for 7-10 days and we have seen excellent results with much smaller livers after that time.

Ok thanks 3AZscotties for the information. Then I will follow doctor's orders.

Ty, it went very well, all I remember is being wheeled into surgery, mask on my face, next thing I am back in my room, with barely any pain, more discomfort then anything.

I slept, walked to the bathroom, did my thing, lol, then looked in mirror and went omg,

My face was swollen, eyes almost shut, rang for the nurse, I had an allergic reaction they figure from the anesthtic, they gave me meds to bring down the swelling, by the time I got discharged, it was way better. But then I had to travel back to San Diego feet swelled up bad, stayed in hotel for the nite, yes I did a lot of walking, next day caught the plane home, by the time we arrived home7 hours later, my whole body was puffy, feet were like elephant feet, hands were twice the size they should be, and I was drinking liquids, biggest mistake I did when I got home was got on the scale how silly was I, I was 10.1 lbs. up, I was like what the he$$ , then my brain came into action my gawd girl you are holding your Water big time, what did you expect, lol. After being home for 2days now I am down 6 lbs, feet are still swollen, hands are ok, today my face poofed up a little but was down within an hour. Been on the treadmill 30 mins a day since i got home, slowly increasing that, it is so weird tho couple sips of broth, Water, tea I am full. Started to eat Jello today, Friday I can start to drink Protein Drinks, looking forward to that, food is not an issue so far, I can smell the food my hubby is cooking for himself and it smells soooooooo good but I have no urge to have it.

Anyway like I said went very well dr Corvala and his team were fantastic, the hospital was awesome like a resort, they were also so good to my hubby, with giving him feedback on my surgery and recovery. My only advice is do not step on that scale for week after you get home, lol.

Now for my journey to be lean and fit.

To all the ones that are going this month, I am a big suck when it comes to pain, and I had none, so think positive you all well do great, I still feel wow I did this, and came out great.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
