good for you, yes i agree it seems now a days everything is bad for us , lol. you have to do what is best for you not what some may say, my Dr is all for this, up in canada it is a bit different we opt to go get this done, we do not have to go thru anything, although i did, my dr sent for blood work etc, just to be sure i was good to go

I just read your post in response to mines, sorry for the delay. I was just trying to ensure I respond to those members who were have their surgery yesterday. As for my previous post, after my cardio checkup I found out that it was her presistence that push my insurance company to respond. So now, I guess I can say that all medical doctors are not against this type of procedure, only some.

Boy, sometimes I wish I was lived outside the states, especially when it comes to medical needs. The states medical policies are so strict that sometimes it is hard to get anything you need done without having to jump through a lot of hoops. When I used to travel out of the country there was one thing I found that was readliy available, medicine and medical needs. On one of my last trips to DR I became very sick from something I ate. A doctor from one of the office I was working in came by to see me at the hotel and told me to go to the pharmacy and purchase some bateria medicine, it was that easy. In the states I would have to go see a doctor who would check me over to tell me I was sick (after I paid my co-pay) and then he would write a prescription. I am just really tired of all of the hoops.

Well anyway, I see your date is approaching, March 8th. Are you currently on the liquid diet? How is it? I really am not worry about the liquid diet as much as I am worry about the surgery itself. The diet I can do, the surgery I am little scared about. Just hope I am one of those who balance back quickly. No real complication.

Well have to go I see someone on the message board who had their surgery yesterday, not sure if I wish them the best.

Hello all you March Sleevers,

My surgery date will be March 1st and I am just getting acquainted with this forum. I am excited and nervous and a bit afraid of failure all in one. I have both positive support from friends as well as the naysayers. It seems so many people want to tell me the "Horror" stories of their "friends". Don't they realize what that negativity can do to someone with a date set and their mind made up? It is not like we decided this overnight! I am keeping this s secret from some (family and friends far away) and others on an as needed basis. I would like to keep it a secret to everyone, but that is not fair to those who are struggling with their weight. I can't with integrity look someone in the eye who is struggling and make them think I did this without surgery. So, I must swallow my pride and share my story as needed.

Hope you all are well and enjoying the journey. I am busy organizing me house...how silly is that?

mambomama I was just browsing through all of the message to ensure I wish all of those who were having their surgery, yesterday. I came across your post and realize you also were scheduled for March 1st. Sorry for not sending you a best wish for a successfully outcome. I hope you are ok and processing well. Send us a message when you feel up to it. We would like to know you are okay.

Leederz, Thank you for sharing. The getting back to normal is one of my concerns. About a 1 year old I had a major surgery that took me over 6 six weeks to recover. I was kind of anxious about this surgery because I just was not sure if I would recover by the next day or if it was going to take me several weeks. But hearing that you are recovering so well it make me feel a lot better about it. As for the pain I am not so worry about it. As I said the 1 major surgery I had was so painful that if I can make it though that I can make it though anything. Again thanks for sharing.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
