At A Stall....how Many Calories Do You Take In A Day?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I'm just curious how many calories you take in on a daily bases. I was never given a number only to be sure have my Protein first and intake must be a minimum of 86 grams per day. I'm at a stall with my weight loss and was wondering if I'm taking in too much. First let me say I am not a diet food or low fat eater and since the surgery, I no longer eat junk food or Pasta so my meal is mainly Protein veggies then fruits. My intake is between 1000 -1200 on a hungry day. Any advise on a daily calorie amount and how to jump start my loss again other than exercise.

Hi,

My doc put me on 1000 a day and gave me a specific diet to follow. Essentially each meal is 250 calories. You might want to stick with a routine meaning don't try new foods for a while. Stick with 1000 calories and drink Water. I find when I hit my liquids with Water primarily, I do best. Also you might want to substitute Protein drink for a meal or two daily. LilMissDiva has posted her boot camp, I have read folks do well on it.

Best of luck to you.

How far out from surgery are you? I am almost 6 months out and typically I am between 800-1000 calories a day. I get at least 75 grams of Protein, and I try to keep my carbs and fat below 50 grams.

How far out are u? I am a yr out and get anywhere between 1300-1500 and I've lost 153 lbs and I'm still losing. I reached a healthy bmi 149 but now want to get down to 135. You'll surprised what upping calories will do. I eat eggs, cheese, yogurt, fruit, nuts, meat, veggies, and grains. Just try it for a few weeks.

Using 2% dairy products instead on nonfat, a bit of Peanut Butter (you can make a Thai peanut sauce to dip your meat into), make dips with greek yogurt (I just made some gorganzola and greek yogurt dip the other day. If you can up the Protein along with the calories while not adding too much mass, I would think that would be a good thing.

Thank God for this post. i went to a support group meeting last night and walked away freaked out. i am a month and 11 days out and i am able to eat what i want per my surgeon. i thought i was supposed to be getting 400-600 calories a day. so at the meeting with our dietition she said we should only be getting 500 calories a day and made me feel bad cause i craved ice cream and ate it one day. not a lot of it, but just to cure the craving and i did not go HAM on it, very little. my surgeon also told me soda was ok once in a while and the dietition was like No no No!!! so i have a hard time getting my calories in some days and those dang Protein Shakes make me want to hurl. i told her i was eating a stouffers meal for lunch once a day and yes they can have up t0 425 calories but they have 24 grams of protien and it helps me meet my calorie intake and get more Protein than i would if i didnt and i got ripped for that. so im like wtf am i supposed to eat and how many calories am i ok with. i have lost 25 lbs since surgery so i gotta be doing something boardline right

Shaah, your dietition probably didn't want you eating processed foods. Even though they may seem ok, calorie and protien wise, they are not good foods for you. The sodium alone can hault your weight loss. Eat healthy whole foods.

Try yogurt, greek yogurt has alot of Protein and you can get the plain and add whatever you want in it to flavor it. Try eggs, bacon, sausage, canadian bacon, ham or turkey slices and cheese.

I would not advise soda either. My doc said NO NO NO...not only is it just empty calories or chemicals, its not good for our sleeves. I'm sure you had the surgery to get healthy, so now is the time to eat really healthy...take baby steps. No one expects you to do this over night. Just do it one meal at a time, one day at a time.

Hope that helps.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
