Recommended Posts

I'm 5'1 and 1/2. I had surgery 12 weeks ago. I started at 218' date=' now weigh 181. It is slow but steady, every week the weight comes off. As I have seen on here, slow and steady wins the race. dde09[/quote']

You and I almost have the same story.

Day if surgery 215. Sixteen weeks out and I'm at 167

Almost the same loss rate as me too. I am 5'2 surgery was 10 weeks ago.I started at 218 and now weigh 184. You are right slow and steady wins the race. As long as the scale is moving in the right direction we're all good:)

Has anyone else noticed the increased snoring with weight gain? I think I may have always been a light snorer (is that even a word?! lol), but it's getting ridiculous now! For those of you who snored before, can you tell a difference after losing weight?!

My husband reports that I used to snore loud enough to shake the windows, and now I am so quiet he has trouble sleeping and often wants to shake me to see if I'm still breathing. :P I've noticed an increase in carbs makes me snore more though.

Hi everyone I am 5'0 and weigh around 200lbs it varies between 198-205. I am being sleeved March 28th in Colorado. I am 26 and a mother of 3. Size 18 pants and xl shirt. I carry weight pretty evenly... But also pear shape... . Big arms... Big belly... but huge hips and thighs. Well my goal weight from my Dr is 150...but I hope to get to about 130... Plus I keep hearing your ultimate goal should be about 10lbs less than you truly want to be because the average person gains about 10lbs back after they get down to their lowest weight... I would be happy at 140lbs!

I am 4'11" and have weighed as much as 238 at my heaviest. At start of preop diet I weighed 215. I am 4 weeks out and weigh 182. So 32 lbs down so far. I am 41 yrs old and have 2 kids. My husband has been very supportive but did not really read anything before I had surgery. Lol. He keeps asking when he might be able to take me out to dinner. His work will be requiring him to travel away for six months in about a month and I think he just wants things to seem ok before he goes. I have been on a 2 week stall and am hoping I start losing again soon.

I've been waiting for a forum like this!!!! I've also wondered how the weight loss affects those of shorter stature! I'm 26' date=' 4'11", and weigh 245(ish). I'm really wanting to have my surgery at the end of this year. I have the usual, high BP, PCOS, higher end of normal blood sugar, and SNORING:( Some people don't understand that when you're shorter, the weight makes even more of a difference in your health!

So glad to finally meet some of you who were/are in my same situation!!!![/quote']

I just came across this thread. I totally understand where you are! I started at 248- I'm 4'11, too. I had borderline high BP, borderline diabetes and boy was I a snorer (I didn't have apnea though). I just turned 27 last month. I've lost 57lbs in 3 months. I could not have done it without my sleeve. I'm wearing sizes I haven't worn since high school. I'm able to run and do things I haven't done in years! It's amazing!

Hi to all the lovely petite women!

I'm 5'2 and a half, and currently between 212-215lb. I should be having my surgery in April. Last visit is this Thursday and then we submit to insurance. I can't wait to get back down to 130 which is what I weighed 20 years ago when I got married. My doctors goal is 115, but I don't think I've weighed that since high school. Is that realistic for a 42 year old mom of 2 teenagers?

Also, is there anything that you wish you had known/done before you had the surgery?

My surgeons goal for me is 141. And I am 4'11". When they asked what my goal was I said I would like to see 125 again. They said they would not hold me to that. Was not really sure how to take that.

My doctors goal is 140- mine is 130. I was 139 in high school- I was a big time softball player- I had very low body fat and way too much muscle. I doubt I will ever be quite that 'fit' again- but I have set my goal lower because I know I won't have that much muscle now.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
