Excess Saliva (sliming?)

Recommended Posts

Hi!

Two months post op today and I have noticed in the last couple of weeks that I am having serious saliva over-production. Anyone else out there encounter the same issue? I talked to my nutritionist about it today and she said it could be sliming (see link- I know it is lap band and I had sleeve, but same idea: http://drsimpson.net/fills/lap-band-problems/sliming/sliming.html )

It is driving me nuts! I am spitting all of the time and find it rather disgusting.

Good news though- two months post op and I am down 32lbs (43lbs if you include my pre-surgery diet).

The only time I got/get what you're describing is when I eat too much. Oh, boy, then it hits with a vengeance! Does it happen when you eat, or just all the time?

For the last two weeks it has been bothering me most everyday. The most my stomach can handle at one sitting is 1/2 a cup, so I am not sure overeating is the issue. And I will still be filled with saliva hours after I have eaten! Driving me crazy.

Just a bit of reassurance, it does slow down, i promise, then you just have to watch. . . sorry this is happening and yes it is very bothersome but it does get better. . .

This just happened to me last night UGH UGH UGH... and I'm nearly 16 months out. This happens to me if I eat too fast. I only had about 3 or 4 bites and eeeeeewwwwwwww. I felt so sick.

I ate fast because for some reason sleevie just didn't let me eat that much yesterday at lunch so at dinner I was anxious to eat...not good!

I had this same problem, and I'm 4 weeks out. I was carrying one of those barf bags they give you in the hospital! When I was at school, I couldn't spit of course, so I had to swallow. That made me so nauseous. Luckily, it's pretty much stopped now. Only when I feel nauseous, either from eating to fast or not eating enough, do I have the excessive saliva. It'll get better!

That's actually a very good article.

Try taking smaller bites and chewing it up very, very well.

Sliming is the pits, and it has nothing to do with the band. I am sure every sleeve patient will experience this at one time or another.

I still do it after 2 1/2 years, if I eat too much or too fast. It very rare for me now though.

I too have this problem along with excessive dry heaving at times. Ughhh... I can hardly eat anything and hate to try new try new things because of these two issues. I am 4 months out and eat very little at all. I have an appt with my Dr. in a couple weeks so hopefully they will recommend something. Good luck to you. I hope this improves for you.

I had this issue with the band, and I'm guessing I will have it now with my new sleeve, it's usually from taking too big of bites or eating too fast.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
