Things I Wish I Could Do (pre Gastric Sleeve Surgery)

Recommended Posts

Hopefully if all goes well I will be having my surgery in 2 months, and will be on my way to finally doing some things I've never done or haven't been able to do for a while.

Here is a list of some of the things I want to be able to do after WLS that I cannot do now because of my weight:

Go ziplining, jetskiing, and kayaking

Wear a swimsuit with confidence

Dance at a nightclub without sweating within the first 45 seconds

Sing on stage without feeling self-conscious

Not be the fattest person in the gym working out

Paint my own toenails, and buckle my shoes

Stop snoring

Wear pumps/stilettos without foot fat bulging out or worrying about keeping my balance

What things do/did you want to do but couldn't as a fat person? Maybe I can get some more ideas to put on my list of to-dos after WLS.

Oh wow, I forgot about rollercoasters....I haven't been on any since high school. And I definitely cannot wait until I can fit into an airplane seat comfortably.

Oh, my... the list could go on and on... I have a lot of similar things on my list and would add...

Fitting into knee-high boots.

Wearing skirts/dresses without the burning fire of chub rub! Ow!

Fitting into arena seats without having bruises on my hips for the next two weeks.

Not being embarrassed to the point of apologizing for my size every time I take a bus and don't get a seat to myself.

Learning new things - SCUBA, maybe a martial art?, training to be a runner/run a 5K

Oh, there's so much more....

Wow you all sound so ambitous! I only have 60 lbs. to lose but it is all in my abdomen and I can't do anything I am so uncomfrtable I want to be able to wear my jeans tucked into my boots, cut my toenails, go into my closet and not wear the same top and jeans everyday, wear a black tee shirt tucked into jeans with a black belt, walk on the treadmill 40 minutes without running out of breath after 5 minutes, and wear cute clothes with belts without looking like I have a belt around a redwood tree trunk! LOL!

I am so ready to be smaller than my hubby!

Wow as I read everybodies list I was thinking of mine, so here it goes

1. Because I look like I am carrying twins I want to stop telling people I am due in six month

2. Correctly wipe myself without pain and sweating

3. Buy mirror

4. Walk again with stoping every ten minutes to rest

5. Walk with husband without looking like a perfect ten (he is one and I am the zero)

Hopefully this will happen before my birth in Feb. 2012

Get up off the ground gracefully. Was at a parade today sitting on the curb and realized I can't get up easily anymore.

Ok, I hadn't thought about this either. But here's a few I would like to do.

  1. Not see my stomach between my legs
  2. Cross my legs
  3. Paint my toes
  4. Run around with my grand children
  5. Chase my dogs through the yard
  6. Have my husband throw me over his shoulder (he's a strappin' man!)
  7. Buy 100% cotton jeans in the real women's department and not the strech kind
  8. Be able to wear a silk blouses because my arm-n-hammer arms are gone.
  9. Walk my dogs daily
  10. Sky dive

I want to go sledding with my kids (14 year old twins) - not just take pictures or hold extra gloves. I want to wait in line for a roller coaster ride without the fear of "struggling" to get myself belted in. (forget the shear embarrassment of having to have the attendant help me out!). I CAN'T WAIT to have a real "family picture taken. I have avoided cameras for as long as I can remember. I want to go to a sporting event and not "have" to sit in the nosebleed section because I want a backrest and I feel uncomfortable sitting in front of people. I really just want to become more of an active participant in my children's lives - not just an onlooker.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
