How Easy Is It To Cause A Gastric Sleeve Surgery Leak?

Recommended Posts

Ok, So I am 3 days post op and NOW I have all these worries. I had no questions or concerns pre-op but now I am freaking out a little!!

So ..how easy is it to cause a leak in my new tummy? I sip, sip, sip all day because I don't want to get dehydrated, but I worry about causing a leak if I sip too much or eat Jello or hiccup or burp too hard or cough or ANYTHING! How soft and sensitive is my tummy? crazy.gif

It's tougher than you're thinking right this second, but you do need to be gentle with it. Sip, sip, sip, so that you aren't filling it super full with every drink. When you eat, even soft foods, don't eat till you are uncomfortable. My Nut gave me a scale and I used it religiously. When I'd eaten my 2 or 3 oz, I stopped. Usually I stopped before I got there because Rex wouldn't hold that much.

Try not to cram your sleeve full. It's not "easy" to cause a leak, but it is very swollen and sensitive. My goal was to not make my sleeve work too hard. As you go through the stages, you'll be able to better tell when you're full. Right now, though, just concentrate on things that are very easy and don't place strain on your sleevie.

Good luck!! :)

I heaved the first 2 days after surgery and hadn't any leaks. Although I don't recomend pushing the sleeve you can see that 2 days of vomitting didn't hurt it, so it is durable. I also agree with Lissa in trying to not get to the full feeling, you'll be happier in the long run.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
