Thanksgiving "survivor"!

Recommended Posts

Well, I made it through my first post surgery Thanksgiving and felt great about it...I still filled my plate with a little of everything and ate a little of each and was satisfied as if I did my "traditional" plate refills!! I was a bit nervous getting on the scale today but lost 5 lbs this week...I made sure to keep up with my workouts and keep my "indulgements" to just that...

surgery date: Oct 12, 2011

Congratulations!!!! A great success! I too felt so at ease this Thanksgiving. food was simply not an issue. I just made healthy choices and with the sleeve, I had a built in Portion Control. I have to say, I felt great both emotionally and physically. I had a bunch of energy to do the clean up too! LOL As always, it is difficult watching others fill their plates and then go back for more. But I mostly felt happy to feel in control!

Good job! Sounds like you really did well. I'm afraid I relate to the "survivor" part of this. I didn't do too well. Because I hadn't shared my surgery with most of the people at the table, I felt pressure to look and eat normally. They all knew I was dieting so I wasn't eating as much, but still, I ate too much and then had to make three trips to the bathroom to throw up. I haven't thrown up in a couple of weeks (it was a problem the first couple of months) so I was really disappointed in myself. I was finally at a point where I thought I had learned what my new stomach could consume comfortably and then I blew it by pushing the limit. I've learned my lesson and Christmas I won't care what people think about how much I'm eating. I'm going to take better care of my little tummy for the rest of the holidays.

I survived Thanksgiving with no weight gained or lost. I put a little of everything I wanted on my plate, at till I was full. I even had a piece of pie much later in the day. Even with all of that and FIVE deviled eggs, I still didn't hit 1400 calories for the day. I feel good about that.

I also made my Protein and Water goals for the day, which was great. But, most importantly, I learned that I can resist temptation, with a little help from my friend the sleeve. :)

I think I fared pretty well during my first Post-Sleeve Thanksgiving. I did put a little bit of everything on the plate, but I surely didn't eat everything that was there. I did feel a twinge of gult for not cleaning my plate like mom taught me to do, but I was also very careful so I wouldn't have to chuck it all up. I even had a fe bites of dessert. Not to mention, I got up the morning of and did apre- Thanksgiving run at the park. Then, I got up at 5am the next morning for a fitness bootcamp. Overall, I LOST two pounds last week :).

  • Glad to hear others had such a great Thanksgiving as well...I even asked my wife if she was glad I didn't take here advice and wait till after the holidays to have my VSG...one of the best decsions I have made, now I can really enjoy the holidays and even do a little clothes shopping...which I am so stoked that it looks I am on the cusp of moving out of the XXL neighborhood!!!

I am on full liquids and also have no regrets that I picked a date right before Thanksgiving. I had about 25 family members over (I didn't cook) and I did great! Like everyone said here, "I enjoyed my family members company" as i sipped my Protein Shakes. I eyed a thing or two for a few seconds and moved on. On Friday and Saturday there were two big "eating" parties as well and I stayed on plan. I couldn't have done that before being sleeved. I am so darn happy! :tea:

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
