Whip out your crystal balls please!

Hello! We are planning a trip to Europe in March. It is the only time of the year we can go. I will only be 4 months out and not at goal, of course. (I need to lose 100 pounds).

This is where your crystal balls come in. How will I feel? Will my energy levels be high or will I still be recovering? Will I be able to eat "normally" by then? ( I mean our new normal, of course.) Will I be able to eat Desserts and non Protein foods once in a while? Lastly, I am thinking I will be at least 40 pounds lighter. Is this a reasonable expectation?

I know I am asking you to predict the future. LOL Indulge me will ya? :plane:

40 pounds seems reasonable provided you follow your dietary guidelines. Your energy level should be top-notch. I am 3 months out (almost) and feel like I could run a marathon. You will be able to nibble on Snacks and desserts once in a while but don't go overboard. These foods go down much easier than we would like. For me, the first few times I had dessert I had to find a bathroom quick. Don't let that happen to you on vacation, lol. Good luck and have a great trip!!

I was closer to 65 lbs. down at four months but I had a bit more to lose (130 lbs.). My energy level was fantastic at four months and I could tolerate pretty much anything I wanted other than bread that was really "doughy". I think you'll be in a great place surgery-wise to enjoy the heck out of your trip. :smile1:

My energy was good by 4 months, but didn't really return full strength for a couple more weeks. I think I am a bit slower than many on that front. My doctor said some people take up to 6 months, but most have their energy at normal levels by 3 moths.

At four months, I could eat a small amount of non-Protein foods. Pack your Protein powder as a backup. I started at 222 (5'6") and was down 52 lbs. to 170 at 4 months out. I follow the plan with very few cheats and exercise 5-6 days per week.

Even at 3 months I'm down 50! And I have felt 100% since week 6!

I went to Hawaii at about four months. I had TONS of energy and had lost 52 pounds (I started at 280 with 120 to lose). I did take unjury chicken Soup with me as well as nectar Fuzzy Naval to try and help keep me on track. I definitely also let myself have other things like papaya and pineapple as I love them and did not want to feel cheated of the Hawaii experience. I walked and swam a lot. I returned from 2 weeks away the exact same weight but then dropped 7 pounds in my first 5 days home!

One of the funny things was that since I was with my family- for a family wedding in a house rented for ten of us- it always seemed to me like they ate constantly! No sooner did it seem that the hours of prep for Breakfast was over than it was time for lunch! I felt freed of that.

I am very close to 3 months out and have lost close to 50 lbs, so I think your 40 lb goal is very realistic at 4 months (you'll probably have more weight off than that!). I just went on a 4-day trip to Washington, DC - did a ton of walking and didn't eat all that well, and still lost 5 lbs that week because of all the activity. You should be feeling great by then! Have FUN!

I hosted a family reunion at 4 months and had 3 days on non stop food of all kinds available to me. My energy level was good and I could eat Protein, some veggies, and I had a couple of bites of a couple of other things. I stayed away from sweets and alcohol.

I'm just over two months out and I could totally do Europe (take me with you!). I think your toughest challenge will be staying away from all the yummy bread and pasta!! As long as you get in your Protein you'll be fine. Have a blast!

I'm 4 months and feel absolutely normal. I'm down 63lbs from 239 to 175 and I eat fairly normally. Whatever everyone else is eating just wayyyyyyy less. Lol

I'm almost 3 months post-op and I feel normal. In fact, I feel better than I did pre-op because I'm so much lighter! 40 lbs in 4 months seems reasonable to me. I've lost around 40 lbs in less than 3 months, so it's definitely doable!!!!

I can eat anything I want at this point, but of course in smaller portions. I still have to be careful about eating too quickly, and I throw up at least once a week. I need to fix that :/. Desserts like brownies and cakes slide down my sleeve with ease.

You'll feel fine during your vacation :smile1:.

Wow seems I can potentially lose more than 40 in 4 months!!!! :jaw:<-----------I've been wanting to use this little guy. LOL No wonder you are all thrilled with your sleeve! Woot!

Starting month four now and I am eating regular food. Only got sick from spicy shrimp and trying untoasted bread to soon. You should be fine barring any other problem like leakage.

Just be wary of the type of food ordered and how they prepare it. In Holland they tend to undercook chicken, Germany you have spicy sausage, England (what can I say except that I found the nearest pizza Hut) Don't forget a pepperoni pizza to the Europeans is made with Hot Peppers not American Pepporoni.

Last bit of advice, try to avoid the alcoholic beverages they tend to be a bit stronger (hide the bad taste of some foods no doubt) and with smaller stomach you may be a buzz a lot quicker. At least go slow to test drive the stomach and system first.

      Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
      I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

      Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

      Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
