List of MTFs who might do the sleeve

Recommended Posts

Hello. I am new to the forum. I am a Tricare Prime beneficiary and am so frustrated about the fact Tricare won't cover the sleeve with civilian docs. After reading a lot of posts, I realize I am not alone! So I thought I would start a thread that would create a list for people to use when seeking a procedure through an MTF.

Here is what I have found from other threads:

Naval Hospital San Diego (Balboa)

Portsmouth Naval Hospital (Hampton Roads Virginia)

Can anyone out there add any to the thread? Thanks much!

Shan

I know you can get it done in Texas, Washington state, Bethesda MD, Evans Army Hospital at Ft Carson CO....those are the ones I have seen people say they had their surgery done there. I don't know the names of some of the hospitals. I know Walter Reed used to have a program but I heard it was closed because they got too many people and couldn't handle the volume anymore but that was a while ago so it may have changed.

The thing is if an MTF has a surgeon that does the VSG and that person gets deployed than they won't offer that surgery anymore until the surgeon gets back or they get another one. I am in the process of going to CO to get my surgery now. Hoping it all goes well and I get it soon.

I had my band removed 8 months ago at KACH in West Point NY. The new surgeon there is not doing bariatric surgery so I had a referral put in for a sleeve in the National Capital Area Surgical Weight Loss Program at Bethesda Naval Hosp. but they denied it because I have to live within 50 miles. I have a sister in DC but they flatly refused...so i assumed all MTF's have a requirement that you live within a specific radius. We can only use West Point since we moved closer to where it is located. VA in Bronx NY does only the sleeve but they because it is VA and not DOD I think they don't accept Tricare for their sleeves

Fort Hood

MacDill AFB

Eglin AFB

Willford Hall at Lackland AFB

There's one in Washington State (I can't remember the name)

California has several between Army and Naval hospitals

I believe the hospital on Langley AFB is offering VSG as well.

Georgia has a couple

Langley AFB doesn't offer bariatric surgery at this time but sends patients to Portsmouth Naval Hospital instead.

When I called Willford which is no longer doing them said everything eas moved over to Brooke Army Medical, but they are also not doing them right now as they do not have a surgeron to do them. Carl Darnall is doing them, Fort Hood, TX

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
