I was sleeved one week ago. At first did great getting my Fluid in and some Protein (while in the hospital). Since getting home I am having a huge problem getting either in. I wake up in the morning and look at the 7 pills and 4 liquid meds they want me to take and get nauseas. Then even thinking about drinking a Protein Shake (on full liquids) makes it even worse. I have not gotten sick but am really worried about not getting enough nutrition. I am down 17 lbs since the surgery. 7 of that was from yesterday. Everytime I call my surgeon they add on another med. I dont know if I can take that. I have no hunger at all. I dont feel bad other than my silly "pissy pouch". No pain etc. Suggestions?

I'm 5 weeks out and struggle with liquids too. PreOp, I drank a ton of Water all day. Now, I just can't stomach it. I do try to sip all day. I pour a protien drink in a glass with ice and drink it all day. At 5 weeks, I don't get hungry and force myself to eat/drink.

What's a 'pissy pouch'?

What are the meds for?

Sorry if I'm too noisy. :-)

Meds are the 6 Vitamins plus reglan, carafate, nystatin (developed thrush) and diflucan (again for thrush). I call my sleeve my pissy pouch because it has an attitude problem at times:) Yeah I drank alot pre surgery just cant do it.. When I call my surgeon they get mad that I am not taking in 20 gram of Protein at a scheduled breakfast/lunch/dinner and Snacks. I just cant get it down. Plus all the meds fill me up too full as is. I know this will pass. I just dont want to get myself sick due to poor nutrition.

I regreted my surgery for the first 4 weeks. Hang in there, I promise it gets better.

I was required to stay on 3 Protein drinks and 2 yogurts a day for the first 4 weeks. I stoppped losing weight because I couldn't force down half of that and was in starvation mode. The thought of eating made me want to barf.

I am now using EAS CarbControl drinks. They have 17 grams of Protein. I drink about 2 a day. It takes me over an hour to drink one but I force myself to.

I am also chewing two gummie adult multi vitimens a day. Can use switch to gummies? They might be easier on the stomach.

What type of diet does the dr having you doing?

Hey, girl! I am right in there with you- I was sleeved 6 days ago, and when I saw the surgeon yesterday to get the drain out, I voiced similar concerns. My NUT said 60 oz fluids and 60 Gm protein, and the best I could do was about 30/30. My surg said not to be concerned. He did suggest that I make my shakes with skim milk instead of Water to increase the protein, to add crushed ice to increase the Water content, and make them more palatable over the hours it takes me to get them in. I would bet they could edit some of those meds if you pinned them down, and said "give me the top 3-4" and I will catch up on the others in a week or two. I am a nurse, and when I do med reconciliation with patients, there are ALWAYS some that are a nice to do, but not mandatory, particularly in the short term. Another thought, is you may need a bag or 2 of IV fluids to get you over the hump until it is easier to sip in that volume. Don't let it go so long that you get into real trouble, when the solution is pretty simple. Hang in there, I have tried to keep track of the small daily improvements in my progress to stay encouraged, and that helps. You will get through this, and it will be worth it. Rebecca

I had no hunger at all for a few months post-op.......now I can tell when I'm empty.

It will take some time, but you really need to try and get the Protein and fluids.......I didn't take any Vitamins until I was on solid foods, and I'm still pretty bad about swallowing them every day :(

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
