Another Reason Why I Look Forward to This

Recommended Posts

Pardon the slight OT rant here, but I am just really frustrated with my employer. There has been a position open since the end of APRIL for an HR recruiter. Prior to this I have expressed my interest with the recruiting manager several times over the past year and a half about transitioning into HR. He even was nice enough to take time out of his busy schedule to meet with me in his office and talk about this. This was a year ago and at the time he said to keep doing what I was doing and that after the first of the year, he would take me along with him when he went to local venues for career fairs. When that never materialized I reminded him about it and he didn't remember offering that. *Sigh* Never bothered to offer it again, either.

But with this I had a lot of transferable skills to this position, so I applied. The recruiting manager made me wait over a month before responding. No chance at an interview, he mentioned that they were "very serious" about having someone with the right background and they were looking at competitors to hire from. Never mind the fact that you might want to PROMOTE FROM WITHIN.

*Deeeeeep breath*

Anyway, that was back at the beginning of July that happened. I was peeved but responded back civilly that if a position should become available in HR again to let me know. As of today that same position is still posted on the site, but someone has filled it. Someone that works here already. Someone that has not been here as long as I have. Someone that has ZERO HR background.

Someone that is also tall, thin, pretty... not fat and round like me.

Maybe I am jumping to conclusions but add this to anothe reason of many I hate being fat - being overlooked for EVERYTHING. I really want to chew the recruiting manager out, or at least ask him WHY.... but I know I can't. All I can do is keep my eye on the prize... a new, thinner, more confident me. :first: She is hiding there underneath all the flab.

And someday she will get that promotion!

Well, I don't mean to be vulgar... but it's not who she knows... it's who she blows. Haha I can so relate !!! My boss has never even looked at me, he never talks to me or smiles at me or asks me anything. He goes through my supervisor, even if I am standing right there !! He happens to be a workout freak and thinks he is God's perfect specimen and I know what he is thinking when he sees me... I am just a fat chick and I disgust him !! There are two other women who work there who are beautiful and he talks to them and cracks jokes with them and even gave one a ride to her car across the lot one day !! I can't wait til the day he actually notices that I am there, and I act like I don't notice him !!!

I understand EXACTLY where you come from. Here in Vegas, our kitchens are very image conscious. Sure, I was good enough for chef jobs in room service, employee dining, banquets and MAYBE the buffet. But I never get the big-ticket fine dining spots. They always go to the slim chefs. They flash their degrees (AAS) and viola, they're in. Yes I have a degree. Two. I have a culinary degree and a bachelor in Hotel Administration...ALONG WITH 20 YEARS EXPERIENCE!! It freakin' sucks. But F them.

Yeah, I said it, so what!

I'll just move on to a better, bigger gig elsewhere. Hospitality is EXTREMELY image driven in Las Vegas (and anywhere else I imagine). I hate how they delay my internal interviews, go outside the company to hire a newbie and use my ideas as their own. Welcome to the armpit of culinary arts. It's dark here and it stinks at times too.

Anyways, screw them. Don't give them the satisfaction of doing this for them. Do it because you DAMN deserve better. They'll be singing the blues when they realize they lost a most prized asset. Their loss. You may not want to work for snakes like that later on anyhow.

Best of luck to you.

And one more thing:

YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL NOW (ALL OF YOU)!!! JUST BECAUSE SOME JERK CAN'T SEE IT DOESN'T ME YOU EVER, EVER LOSE SIGHT OF THAT!!

Thanks for the words of encouragement - and of course you are right. Still what I would give to give that guy a piece of my mind. Maybe someday. ;)

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
