How is weight loss for people over 50?

Recommended Posts

I am 53 and was banded 2-7-06. I am down 68 lbs and am loosing slowly ( for me!- fine for my dr.!) but steady. I stop for a wk or so and then start loosing again but the big point is I keep going down. I know I could go quicker if I worked out more - currently i power walk daily ( my dog never had stroll programmed into him!) for a mile or 2. I think after haveing 50 some years of bad eatting habits it may take a bit longer to retrain. I know if I don't think about it every minute when I am eatting, I will eat too fast and pay for it by PBing. I am learning....

Ok, stupid question here, but I keep seeing 'PBing' and I'm wondering what it stands for. I've figured out it's throwing up, but am just curious what it stands for.

Thanks!

Becky

:whoo:I'm back from Tiajuana MX. I feel great. Yes I can feel the restriction and most of my hunger pains are gone.

My doc (Dr. Gonzales) had me lay down on table and found the port right away. He inserted the needle (feels like a pin prick) and had me sit up with needle still in. He sent some fill solution into my band and had me gulp down some Water, went down easy. He kept repeating this until the water backed up my esophagus and a burp came out. Then he pulled out some Fluid and had me drink. The water went down. Next I sat in a room and slowly drank a bottle of water. I was to let them know if I had any problems, which I didn't.

Is this the same way any of you got your fills?

NM Sunshine:

I also go to Dr. Gonzalez, I understand what you are saying.

It seem that I form a air bubble, Water goes down ok, but slow. Burp burp burp. I went and got something to eat, and got full right away. That was 2 weeks ago. Now I can eat anything again. I am going back on 10/29/07 for another fill.

They told me when I can eat anything to come back. So that is what I am going to do, until I get a good restriction for long periods of time. I would like to have a good restriction for a couple months anyway? But I will keep going back until that happens. It is a 1 1/2 hour drive. Full day off work. Good luck

Banded 9/13/07 lost 12 pounds

I'm glad to hear that the second fill is so close to the first fill. Dr.G will be in Phoenix next month and I'll be getting my next fill there. Was wondering if I would be ready so soon but looks like I should be. As I understand you reach that 'sweet spot' after 3 fills. Then the fills are spaced a lot further apart.

You are so lucky to be so close to TJ. I have to drive 150 miles to Tucson and board a plane to Phoenix and then one to San Diego.

You might check and see if Dr. G does fills on Saturday. That is unless you work on Saturday.

Also I waited too long to get my first fill. My surgery was 2 days before yours and I got first fill this Thursday. For a few weeks I was becoming c loser and closer to eating just like I did before band. I took 14pds off but put 8 pounds back on.

It's such a fine line between not having enough fill and being too tight. I had some taken out because I lived on Soup for a month and I threw up if I tried anything solid even if I chewed well. I told him to just take a tiny bit out. Now I am back to being able to eat whatever I want, bread included. This is not a good thing. I was just in there to have some out, so now I am probably going to have to wait to get a fill because he is so booked up.

I might just try to be really good and see if I can lose even though I don't have much restriction. I can stay away from bread, just because I know it doesn't promote weight loss.

I am aggravated with this whole situation.

Hi Ya'll,

Just had my 1st setback. :cry

I have been trying to have my LapBand done at River Oaks Hospital but found out they have not been aproved "YET" by Medicare for Medicare to pay for it. I can't afford it if that is not done . It should be approved but no telling when.

I went to a semanar at CMMC 3-4 months ago and they were in the process to be approved by Medicare for Medicare to pay for it. I'm going to check with them soon to see how it's going there.

Other than that, "I'm ready".

Glad to see another person on the Mississippi thread.

Don

Indio made a comment about "Transfer Addictions" a couple of days ago. I found out what mine is when the site was down yesterday. I was having a "woe is me" day already and then to make matters worse, I couldn't get on LapTalk ALL day long! I didn't know what to do with myself! Although I did make some progress continuing the process of sorting through my clothes. We're doing our "Snowbird" thing in a couple of days so I'm trying not to take clothes that are already baggy on me. But I'm finding I'm really attached to some of those things! Having to let go!<!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Hi Phyl,

Oh boy I tried to get on here too....I really missed it!!

A friend of mine told me that if I get banded I will tranfer my eating addiction to either alcholism or nymphomania.....good grief, I can't believe someone started that rumor!!!

Have you heard it?

Carol

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
