Failing pre-op diet

Recommended Posts

You guys are the best. The more I think about ... I was just told to start this 2 week diet last wensday and surgery will be on the 21, now I'm running around in the " what to do state". Having really bad headaches ,along with high blood sugars. when I call my doctor, there's more referrals, I work fulltime and attend school. I can't take anymore time off. But I thank the founder for a place like this, again you guys are the best. Thank you for, being open and telling it to me straight, I really needed it.

I am also having my surgery on the 21st and the pre-op diet has been killing me slowly. I messed up the first day but I am on track and determined to get through it. You can do it, I just keep telling myself 3 more days. I am now having a slight headache but its bearable. Im also a full time student so my energy towards school work is at a low :o but it will get better. We are almost there, this is just the beginning to our journey.

God Bless

Thank you Nicole,

I started my pre-op diet early, trying to get use to it anyway I lost 8 pounds. Then I started back eating thinking I could do, fell off, when it actually started. Thanks to the

support and encouragement here I got back on track and lost 5 more pounds. But my weight seems to have stalled. I promised my self that I would not worry anymore

If at the last moment the doctor decides that I have not lost enough. Please keep intouch would love to know how you are doing, and yes this is just the beginning!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nysha,

I understand, I am on the pre-op diet and it is hell! I keep messing up, but I get right back on it. Like the others said, it prepares us for the post-op way of eating. My surgery is on 9/27, so I am with you on this one.

Sorry to be a party pooper here but I did no pre-op diet and had no pain, nausea or exhaustion after my surgery. I had the surgery Saturday, drove back to LA on Monday - 6 hours, on my own - and went back to work on Thursday. I have felt great ever since and have had no issues whatsoever.

BTW, I had originally scheduled my surgery with an American surgeon who did require a 2 week pre-op diet to shrink the liver. Dr Aceves did not require it based on my BMI. I asked him about my liver after the surgery and he said it was absolutely fine, no issues.

Having said all that - it is imperative that you follow your doctor's instructions to a T, this is too important to cut corners on and put yourself at risk. I'm just glad that my Dr didn't require the ghastly pre-op diet, the post-op liquid diet was long enough as it is :)

I had a two-week pre-op diet... but it was simply eat as few as carbs as possible. I ate a lot of bacon. :)

I actually lost 20 pounds in the 2 weeks before my surgery, which was crazy... but my doc was super happy with the shrunken state of my liver.

This pre-op and post-op diet part is just a tiny little bit of the rest of your much improved life. I'm a year out of surgery, down 146 pounds, and living a very normal life. Stick with it... it's nothing-but-a-thing and it will ALL be worth it!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
