THIS IS TOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if you are talking to me, I am doing the HMR 800 instead of the Optifast. I am 5 days into it. The first three days were the hardest. NOw I am not even drinking the amount I am supposed to. My legs ache from the malnutrition. I can't wait till I get the surgery and get on mushies. Never thought I'd say that.

Sorry, my response was to NancyRN, just quoting her signature quote, b/c I found it relative to her tone.. things can be said and done nicely with class without portraying a brute. People must learn how to.."talk or type" to others.

Oh Hi Was Was Talking To Argon

But Thanks For Responding

Just Wondering What Are The Reprocussions To Cheating For 2 Days Out Of 14

I had my last visit with my surgeon before my surgery on my second day into my pre-op liquid diet. He told me then that they say "liquid diet" but if I wanted to have a small salad or some steamed vegetables and stayed under 1100 calories that would be okay. But, all doctors are different. Yours might say different. I have lost 5 pounds in 5 days.

Hi Rosa,

what do you mean we might be neighbors?

I'll admit, I did cheat a bit during my Optifast. The Optifast isn't to torture you, he (if you are having Dr Cobourn too) wants you to lose a little weight before surgery, so that your liver shrinks a little, and is easier to work around. Do your best... I'm sure you'll lose some weight. Surgery on Tuesday? How much have you lost so far?

Did you cheat for FULL days, or did you just eat something you shouldn't have once, a couple different days? Either way, don't worry about it. Just remember, you're doing this for yourself, and After surgery, it won't be nearly as hard.

Anyways, if you're from Canada, which I guess you must be... come say hi to us in the Canada area of the board! Click here: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=76

NancyRN, I never had the impression from any of your posts that you were attacking anyone on the forums at all. To me you came across as a person passionate about health and health care, and concerned about people being taken in by what you believe to be an unhealthy and sometimes expensive form of alternative therapy. To me it seemed you were debating and speaking out against what you feel to be health care fraud for profit, and trying to protect people from being taken in by it.

My personal feelings are in alignment with yours, I think the body self-cleans itself just fine. I also know that the proper functioning of the bowels in part depends on our internal flora/friendly bacteria, and some of these programs must be hard on that part of the system as well. I think the best way to have a healthy body, and healthy digestive and elimination systems is through eating well. Using anything with a laxative effect can also throw your bodies electrolites out of balance, and that can be an issue with calorie restricted diets as well, I avoid laxatives and supplements with a laxative property like the plague, unless your talking adding a small amount of a natural Fiber like psyillium to the diet to increase your Fiber intake if you're not getting enough from foods.

On the other hand, I believe that people are completely entitled to their own beliefs around diet and nutrition, supplements, and their own health care. I think that we are all entitled to hold our own beliefs, and to be skeptical of claims that challenge those beliefs. Just because I don't agree with someone, doesn't mean I don't respect their right as a thinking feeling adult to make what they feel are the best choices for them. I'm all about respecting where people are coming from and everything that entails.

I enjoy hearing different sides and opinions on health care issues, especially ones that challenge my own beliefs. The more information I have, the more I'm encouraged to do my own research and challenge my own ideas and beliefs and find out whether I still want to hold on to them, or whether there is information I've been missing on making the best decision for me.

Even with believing that colon cleanses aren't healthy, there's that part of me that's curious to wonder whether if I tried it if I would feel some benefit or not. So far, I'm still sitting over in the 'I think it does more harm than good camp', but I'm open to researching and exploring more, as well as hearing about peoples personal experiences.

I don't think anyone here has been deliberately attacking anyone else. It seems to me that people are just trying to share their personal knowledge and personal experiences in order to help others, whether they've been pro-cleanse, or anti-cleanse. I think if you look closely at what people are saying, the intentions are good ones, and really, isn't that what counts?

XO

Leila

I personally did a colon cleanse the day before my surgery. I've had no gas, and I credit it to that. OK, some say it's a scam and I'm cool with that, so if they feel that strongly don't do it. No one makes anyone do a colon cleanse or makes them believe in it. I personally don't care if anyone downs Mineral Oil or whatever they choose....I just don't care.

Thanks Telly for setting it straight. This got so out of control. Hey, if you like colon cleanses they aren't anything that is ever going to hurt you, and my feeling is it was my money....same goes for anything anyone chooses that is best for them. This has become like beating a dead horse on some people's part. Let It Go!! I don't believe the innocent person that asked the question owes apologies to anyone.......

Mucho agree-o Dody!

Now I can move on.

I must say that I love what colon cleanses do for me and how, in the long run, I know it will help me more. Soo many people die from colon cancer, hmmmm.. interesting thought.

What's great about cleaning out..

Since the lapband, I have taken quite a bit of Psyllium Husk to rid my body of any existance of old greasy, nasty, full of preservative type foods that was just garbage. My skin is gorgeous now.

I had a pork chop a few weeks ago (for the first and last time since the band) and it was greasy... which I had to eat (in-laws) but soon after I felt dizzy, sluggish and just gross. I just knew that the baked pork chop that was somewhat greasy was the culprit. My body was just not used to it anymore. Thank god for that.

It doesn't take a Scientist to know that you are what you eat and if you eat crap, your body is full of it. Why not rid of that garbage or any remnants of it.

On another note, the cleansing was symbolic for me. I got rid of the old me and all the garbage that I fed to myself, left it in the toilet, lol.

Also too, what's funny is that when I did my first cleansing, I had to fast the entire week as I did it, meaning I could not eat a damn thing. I did it to the "T" and let me tell you, a whole 7 days of cleansing with just applejuice and that concoction that I had to make with psyllium Husk and ginger....

I can understand having a bowel movement after being on that stuff for 2 days. But when you start seeing, yards and yards of black stuff come out that is rubbery and green...or brown and other weird things..... after day 3... without eating???? Where is all that stuff coming from? Mind you, I did not have diahrrea. It felt like a regular toilet session. Not spurty and not watery, just wholesome. I was always hydrated and fine. Never felt dizzy or lacking anything. I actually felt bursts of energy as my skin changed that week.

But do explain .... pounds of stuff coming out of you 3 days of elimination when you aren't eating anything but husk? What's all that black stuff that was rubbery that came out? How did I lose 7lbs? Harmful? I'm still here with no issues at all.

I used that useless old colon cleanser too :) and I didn't have a bit of gas, shoulder or otherwise after surgery. My thought...and purely mine...the colon cleansing helped. Hey, whatever floats anyone's boat is alright with me, but we are big girls and can make our own choices and so we did. Glad you were also happy with the results of yours. Thank God...we can really move on now :)

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
