no 'feeling of sensation' of having to urinate

Recommended Posts

I'm 1 month out and ever since the surgery I haven't felt any sensation of having to urinate, my bladder never feels full where I know I have to go to the bathroom..... I have to force myself to go sit down every 2-3 hours and "force" it out. Has anyone else had this problem since surgery? It's really wierd. My thoughts are maybe just because I'm not getting all my Water down(??), not as much output. I didn't have this problem before surgery. Let me know your thoughts, thanks.

Yes, I had that, and I read about someone else who experienced it too. I don't know why, I thought of a lot of possible reasons, but it went away after a couple of months and now things are back to normal, bladder-wise. Keep yourself on a schedule, every 4 hours maybe. I found that gave me some peace of mind and I wasn't worrying that I was getting distended and not feeling it.

Same thing happened to me and I didn't even have a catheter to cause a problem. For the first few months after surgery, I would wake up in the middle of the night and have no idea why. Eventually it dawned on me that I had usually gotten up to potty at that time of night but I felt not the slightest urge to go. I am almost a year out and it has gotten a bit better. I do feel the need slightly during the night to go but if I ignore it, I can go back to sleep and just get up in the morning.

Now, no matter how much I drink or how long I wait, I never get that "gotta go right now, get out of my way!" feeling. I treat my bladder like a little kid and say let's just go see if we need to use the pot just in case, k? I live in fear of a bladder infection, so I do force myself to go unless I am all snuggly in the bed. Then it is way to hard to convince myself to get up! laugh.gif

Hi-

I brought this up to my Dr.

She says it is similar to a gal being preggers, the weight pushes on the bladder, now my stomach is smaller- it is great not having the urges to just go all the time.

I had tests to be sure everything was going ok- all normal... Doc. must be right...

:)

I am so pleased with this side effect!!! I had reached the point of having accidents and was considering surgery to correct the problem.

Since my vsg surgery I no longer have to wear daily protection. Now there's a savings I haven't heard anyone else mention!

Thank you everyone for your responses. I'm glad I'm not the only one, it seems pretty common. For a minute I was thinking there must be something wrong. Thanks again! :)

I have this too...I also have an interrupted stream of urine when I do urinate. It's weird, it's like I'm practicing my Kegal exercises...but i'm not. Anyone else experience this?

I'm the same way. I don't go as often as I use too, and when I do go, its not as much. I'm drinking all my Water. When I mentioned this to my doc, she said as long as its Clear Liquids coming out...I'm fine and getting enough fluids. But my question is...where is all that water going that I'm drinking?

I'm the same way! When I get all of my Water in, I'm still only going maybe twice a day. Before surgery, if I were to drink 64+ oz of water, I'd be running to the bathroom every half hour! I also would like to know where all that water is going?!

Funny, I have had the same thing, but I didn't think about it very much. I don't get all my Water in so I thought it was because of limited fluids. However, I can drink a whole bottle of Water in the hour and a half before bed, go to the bathroom once, and then sleep through the night without having to go again. I also don't have a huge amount of urgency first thing in the morning like I used to.

It's pretty cool , actually.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
