I was feeling hungover, turns out...

Recommended Posts

I posted a while back that I was feeling hungover when I woke up then much of the day I was nauseated, dizzy, no energy. I just wanted to lay down all the time. Turns out I may have been allergic to Omeprazole. I switched to Zantac and it made a huge difference. I still struggle, I think with low blood sugar, but its not a battle like it was. YAY!

With due respect, those symptoms (nausea, dizziness) are not symptoms of a drug allergy. Drug allergies produce itching, hives, and (in bad cases) anaphylaxis -- an inability to breathe, which can be fatal.

I'm not sure what your symptoms would represent. It's possible that the omeprazole was causing upset stomach due to blocking too much acid, but usually blocking acid causes the opposite effect (ie, it's the acid that causes the nausea, etc.)

Since you mentioned hypoglycemia, I should note that both symptoms (nausea and dizziness) can be caused by hypoglycemia. It's possible that when you resolved the hypoglycemia just happened to coincide with switching the acid blockers.

Bottom line is that I'm glad you're feeling better, but you should be careful with the term "drug allergy" since I'm pretty sure this isn't one...

Perhaps I should have said I suffered from an adverse reaction, all listed under the side effects that I should have read more closely to begin with. I have not been diagnosed with hypoglycemia but was advised by my dietician that my high Protein diet needed to be better balanced.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
