2 weeks, 3 days out... can I drink yet?

I started drinking week two with no problems. Good luck with your experiment. I know you will be fine.

This just screams TRANSFER ADDICTION WAITING TO HAPPEN.

I'm so whatever about all of it when people choose to make absurd decisions especially after going through such a traumatic surgery, and all of the changes that occur.

Enjoy whatever you choose, and why even bother asking if you're clearly going to disregard not only medical advice, but other's experiences, don't b*tch about stalls and not being able to lose weight, or why your body is not recovering all that great, or you damage your liver by shoving alcohol in there too early.

I think it is too soon a youir stomach is not even healed yeat. At this stage I was still in light liquids. We all know alcohol is irritating to mucosas so I would wait a bit more, perhaps until you are well adjusted to most foods, and try it at home just in case it hits you badly.

Hi, gdc. I think you should call your doctor and get his/her opinion/advice. And even if the answer is yes, you can have a sip of something, please be careful and mindful of your new tummy. Give it a chance to heal totally and completely. Still party it up and have tons of fun but maybe sit this one out. Your tummy will thank you.

Enjoy your day,

Niki

To be honest, if you can't abstain from drinking for a month or two in order to recover from a major surgery (and don't let anyone fool you, VSG IS a major surgery), you may have more serious problems than obesity.

You're just asking for problems -- serious, life-threatening medical problems -- by drinking this soon out from surgery. If you manage to dodge the bullet, well... you're lucky. But if you keep drinking and, you know, develop a staple-line leak because you've irritated your incision, or ruin your liver because you've stressed it out too much, well... you really have nobody to blame but yourself.

However, as Tiff said, it seems like your mind is made up, so this is all probably just a waste of keystrokes...

apparently gdc was just looking for people to tell her to go ahead. As a person with a rare liver disease it's people like you that make me shake my head in disbelief. I just hope you dont bump someone from their place to get a liver transplant that has tried to take care of themselves after you ruin yours!

Amen!!!

I got 85% of my stomach cut out so that I can make a life change to get healthy. Not so that 14 days after the surgery I could go pour harsh chemicals all over my brand new stapled up stomach. Wow. It's people like this that create this whole negative perception and all the negative comments for weight loss surgery. All the judgments and people saying "You'll just gain it right back" come from examples like this. If you aren't willing to make the life changes and make the sacrifices, don't have the surgery. Ugh!!

Why are people so judgmental. Honestly a drink or two is not going to hurt a normal sleeve. Yes it is empty calories and could hinder weight loss. Yes abusing alcohol can cause liver problems. She will only live once. If she wants a drink knowing what might happen so be it. You made the decision not to. That was a healthier and better decision for you.

Why do we need to judge others for their morals. This ganging up on someone and name calling really makes me sad.

I don't think it's ganging up if everyone is saying that it's not healthy. The fact is, it's *not* healthy. I don't think you'll be able to find a doctor that would say drinking alcohol 2 weeks after a major surgery is healthy.

You're right, there is no need for name calling, but it is not absurd to be appalled by the question. If I came in the forum and asked "Hey, what do you guys think, would it be okay if I eat a gallon of ice cream?" I would expect all the answers to be similar to the ones posted in this thread. The fact is, it's just downright unhealthy and it's a big risk to take so soon after a major surgery. You're right, we do only live once, so we need to take care of the bodies that we have, because we only get one. Yes, it is okay to drink on occasion and have a party, but the best way to do that *responsibly* would be to wait until more time has passed after such a major surgery.

If you and gdc choose to abuse your new sleeve that you have been fortunate enough to have, that is indeed your decision, but you can't come into a support group (which is geared toward encouraging each other to be healthier) and expect praise and worship for abusing your sleeve.

*steps down off soapbox*

I'm not calling anyone out on their morals. I could give 2 poops about someone's morals. This is not about morals, or convictions to drink. This is about the sheer medical facts and statistics of drinking soon after major surgery, and the risk of transfer addiction.

I believe it's reckless and hazardous behavior not only to do this to your body early out from major surgery. And, you're right, whoever will only live ONCE, but there is NO reason to rush to the end of it. Many obese people self-medicate with food, no different than self-medicating with alcohol. If you've been around the forums long at all, done any amount of research, you take away a fat person's ability to eat, the risk for a transfer addiction is quadrupled.

It's called educating someone, not judging, nor worrying about someone's moral compass. I care more about what this poster is doing to their body and that others might follow suit because of this one experience.

It's detrimental to the liver to drink this early out. Bottom line, it's ridiculous and absurd.

Well, this thread got a bit crazy, even though I already posted an update.

#1. I'm a He

#2. I already did it, and had 0 problems, here is my status post re-iterated:

""I drank and had no problems... was drinking gin/tonics, screwdrivers and malibu/pineapples all night long - 2 nights a in a row.

I did try a shot of Patron, but only did half at first to test it out and because I cant take the whole shot at once anyways (i dont think, didnt want to chance pain), and that did burn my stomach a bit, so I didnt do the other half. But mixed drinks were just fine... ""

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
