I was banded in 4/2009 despite having auto immune problems; my doctors and I were willing to chance the potential side effects despite all the warnings on not- to get lap band if you have auto immune problems. Well 3 years down the road- Despite having great success with my band- 80 lbs lost and about 92 inches all over I have to have it removed. My auto immune problems are not getting any better partly because of my band and I am going to transition into a sleeve in November of this year. Part of me is nervous, excited, pissed- the whole gammet of emotions has engulfed my day to day life- I look forward to meeting people on this board who perhaps have experienced the same or similar issues or who want to share their stories with me. Being in the medical field I make my own worst enemy just by knowledge alone but at the same time it brings a comfort to know you have read all you can on any 1 topic considering the life changing events that will take place.

I love my band, my band has served me well and if it werent for my fudged up immune problems I would be keeping it and trying to "work it out" but keeping it in with my immuno-suppressant drugs is now being counter active :(

I have been overweight my whole life, tried every diet under the sun. I have always been a positive and upbeat person with a great outlook on life and am hoping that this procedure will bring me as much happiness that my band did in the beginning and that I can stick it out and make it work- I am worried about the normal things, recovery, side effects etc... Mushies were my favorite during the band placement so I'm not worried too much about the liquid/puree'd stages (i know that sounds weird) but I was able to get creative with my blender and came up with some pretty good meals....

I'm curious what people eat 3-4 months out and if anyone who has had this done 4-5 or more years ago what their success rate is. I am not a huge skeptic- I beleive this will work but as with my lapband I know it is only a tool and not to be taken lightly.

Looking forward to new points of view and perhaps different perspectives on the whole process.. Thanks for listening...

Welcome sweetie! Glad to have you aboard! The thing about the sleeve is that it is alot like the band it just restricts the amount of food you can eat. It is very similar to the band as it is just a restriction tool for you tummy. I am sure you can find a wealth of info on this site. good luck to you. ;0)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
