Can someone dumb this down for me?

Hi,

Tomorrow I progress to full liquids. It will be day 10 post-op. Here is my question- when eating creamy Soups how much do you eat? My doctor says to only eat 2 ounces every 15 minutes. So do I drink a bowl of Soup all day every 15 minutes? Or is 2 ounces of Soup considered a meal and you stop. One of the things he warned against was using the sensation of fullness as a gauge. To stop before you are full. I am sooo confused. Cathi

Real meals lasted 30 minutes. I was instructed to eat/drink no more than 4ounces/0.5 cups in that time period, that counted as a meal, wait 30 minutes to resume drinking clear fluids.

I was told the exact thing that Tiffykins was told. In fact, I was told that my stomach would hold up to 4 oz. and nothing more at this time. My bougie size was 32.

Tip: My husband and I decided we needed an easy guage so we weren't having to measure out everything and we weren't messing up all the dishes. So we went to Walmart and found the little 4 oz. or 1/2 cup canning jars. They're awesome! If you fill them to the top they are exactly 4 oz. Then to heat anything up, I boil a small pot of Water with my little jar of food/soup in it. Also, you can store any leftovers you have and then you have a meal ready to go for the next time. :)

Hi Cathi, you are getting into relationship with a NEW PART of your body so of course you are confused, you have never gauged the amount of food you are eating.

YES, you want to stop before you are FULL. Less is MORE. Trust me you won't be hungry if you eat too little and if you eat too much -- it is painful.

Take small bites and let is slide down your throat instead of big spoonfuls. You will discover that gulping Water, or soup, or anything will cause a problem.

Move yourself from CONFUSION to CURIOUSITY and you will feel better about the amazing journey you are on.

I have several soups that I made, check my other posts and/or go to my YouTube posts, look up: i left my stomach in mexicali. My chicken soup is the BEST.

Hi There,

I have seen all your you tubes and the chicken Soup sounds wonderful! Your right this is absolutely a new learning experience especially since I was a volume eater. Tonight I tried sf pudding and it felt totally different hitting the stomach then the creamy chicken soup. Felt very dense and heavy, so i thinned it out and that helped. I have read different posts where people have taken bites of Cookies, cakes, french fries at the stage. I'm not sure what has put such fear in me, but I am afraid to even try the things I am suppose to be eating LOL I guess Dr. Aceves did a good job explaining how much harder your stomach has to work to process something it is not ready for and it can impact the healing and possibly cause leaks. Again thanks for all the good information and support. Cathi

Oh, I LOVE that idea!! :lightbulb: Thanks, Pen!!! If you leave a little room at the top for expansion, can you freeze them, like Soups?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
