I bought some grape and orange Isopure online at Amazon, qualified for free shipping and the nectar in the lemonade flavor I think is really good. I am already experimenting and finding out what I like before my surgery. The nectar I mixed with sugar free Jello (the powder you make yourself) so I will have Protein Jello when I need it.

I am done with my food funerals and have been off my diet mtn dew now 2 whole days. I really miss my best friend.

Glad that you all are doing well....it is very encouraging to us that are following you.

Hey boots,

Glad to hear your getting yourself prepared mentally!!! The time before surgery is for us to prepare and it sounds like you're doing it right. I can relate to the pop issue. I used to drink about 1-2 pots of coffee a day and 3-5 Diet Cokes. The month before surgery I spent reducing those down and switching to caffeine free. Haven't had a drink of pop in 6 days now and could careless. The last 3 days I've had a Decaf coffee in the morning and really enjoyed it. Seems to open me up some.

Take Care,

Mike

I can relate to the disgusted feeling your talking about!! We have these food funerals and as we are doing it we realize this is pathetic and the reason for all our problems in the first place. I think those feelings of disgust and failure are the feelings that help drive us through the surgery and keep us motivated on the other side!!!

On another note - how are things going for you? Any insight you can give us or new discoveries? are you able to get all your Protein and fluids in? I'm struggling with getting it all in myself.

Take Care

Rizz,

I just picked up this "Super Protein shot" today at Walmart in the pharmacy isles. I haven't tried it yet. But it is 110 calories, 26 g protein and 1 carb! It's only 3 oz.!! I'm sharing for 2 reasons. 1, I'm just nice like that LOL. and 2, I kind of want someone else to try it before I do in case it's nasty! HAHA! Glad you are doing so well, and hope you get all good reports at your checkup!

Big Griz, you are right.... the mental game is the hardest to win. Our minds and habits are what we have to overcome, that is why we are at this point in our lives. 90% of the time we eat and we are not really hungry. I have not been hungry while intaking the Protein drinks and I eat a large salad for lunch with turkey or chicken, but I catch myself wanting to snack.

I am a catering manager and I am surrounded by food all day. So it is easy to grab a muffin, tasting what is going out the door etc. Starting this earlier than prescribed by the doctor, I feel is beneficial to start healthy habits. Being a member of this forum, and knowing that we are not alone and other people have the same struggles and desires will be a big help on this journey.

I had ONE food funeral. I have a weakness for Prime Rib... really good prime rib. And my favorite place that makes it, well, its such a huge amount, there is no way I will ever be able to eat it, or even go in there again. So, my boyfriend took me for my "last meal" before I started my liquid diet. I had a 10 oz prime rib (that he had to help me finish) with lobster, mushroom sauce, steamed veggies and a salad. It was by far, the very best prime rib I have, or will ever eat in my life!

Yes, eating habits are hard to change, and it is best to start before undergoing this life changing procedure, but, there is always room for goodbye!!!!

I picked up some raspberry Isopure at the Vitamin shoppe today. Haven't tried it yet but put a couple in the fridge. What a great way to get half your Protein and Fluid intake in one bottle.

Well......I tried this stuff and there is NO way I could drink it. It's not for me!!!! Initially the taste is good but there is one heck of an aftertaste that is something I can't deal with!!!!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
