Thirtysomething women, no kids?

Recommended Posts

TexasRose,

I feel much the same way that you do. I'm 37, single, no kids, and not dating anyone at the moment. I've always struggled with my weight and now that I'm losing, I think "What happens if I meet someone and decide to have a child?" I have a feeling that plastic surgery is somewhere in my future, so I don't know if that will change the way I feel about things.

I teach, so I'm around kids all the time and I've three nephews and a neice, so my mom has grandkids and doesn't pressure me.

At the moment, I'm happy with life and my three cats and working on my master's.

Liz - never think you have to settle for one or the other. I'm happily married, starting my PhD next year, and well-established in a professional career. I will plug along until pregnancy comes (at least another year away), then work as much school in as I can. Work will always be there. I love what I do, and make more than DH, so if either of us stays home it'll be him. He loves what he does too, but could make more money doing it as a freelance contractor anyway. And I can work from home.

I'm going to be 29 in a month (I relate with older people better, probably because I feel like I'm in my 40's), and have a serious fear of commitment. After a year, I just freak out. I can't do it anymore. I've met someone the past 6 months that is almost the male version of me, and to deal with someone who has the exact same hangups as me is not good. I'm not crazy but I am eccentric, and a hard worker, and a hard player. I do want to have kids someday, and realize the band is something that you can have kids successfully someday. I worry (especially lately, as all of my friends are getting married in the next 18 months or so) that I've missed the boat. I want to go back for my masters degree, and secretly I hope I'll meet someone in the school atmosphere. I have a really hard time not finding creeps, and I'm not a bar chick, those never seem productive. Sigh!

I'm 36 and I have no kids (THANK GOD!!!). I feel that children really ruin relationships and lives. I thank my lucky stars every day that I have total freedom to live life on MY terms and do what I want to do every moment without being enslaved to a child. I've been married for nine years and I love every single solitary second of my gloriously child-free existance!!!

Wheetsin,

Most of the guys I meet are already married though! I can't find one that's not just a total loser that's not.

Well... umm... are they happily married?

You know, if I weren't already married, I have NO IDEA where I'd go to meet guys. No clue. DH and I kind of just ran into each other... and good thing, b/c I'm really bad at meeting people. I definitely can empathize.

I am 32 with no children. I was in a LTR and had 2 miscarriages cuz I have polycystic ovarian syndrome. Hard time ovulation and making the egg "stick" .. Now I am single and would love children someday. So banding will help me with that I am sure so I am blessed to have had the surgery.. In fact, just had it 2 days ago!

I met my husband on yahoo personals. We got married 5 months later. Met in Mid July and got married Dec. 18, 2004. hahaha. YES we are crazy but it's been 2 years since we met and we haven't killed each other yet. I do agree though. It's very hard to meet people!

In my opinion, parenting is just like everything in life: some people are into it and some people aren’t. I’m 31, child-free and plan to stay that way. I’ve known since the age of seven that children are not part of my life plan.

For those of us who don’t want children, it can seem like children ruin relationships and lives, and it likely would – for us. But I think for people who DO have the desire or urge to be fruitful and multiply, children bring a special dimension to their lives that people like me will never relate to or understand. I’m an independent career girl. I do what I want, when I want. My sister is a stay at home mother of three. I would never want to live her life and she would never want to live mine.

I'm 33, single, no kids, and thought I was the only one! I'm not sure if I want to have kids or not, but I definitely want to get married (particularly if I can convince him to live next door -- just joking). I figure it'll be easier to untangle all that with some of the weight gone.

Anyway, good to meet you all and know there are others like me.

Take care,

I just turned 38 a few days ago and am childless by choice. Have been with my husband for 7-8 years (I forget) and married since last Fall. He's getting snipped next week :-)

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
