6 Days Post-Op. Surprised and Ecstatic

Recommended Posts

I am six days post-op. This week has been a struggle both with getting all of my liquids in and managing my pain/discomfort. Today was the first day I felt fairly normal and almost no pain--and I have even felt comfortable enough to try chicken Soups and things like that with no issues of ANY kind.

I am 19, 5'4", and my weight was 211lbs on the day of surgery (highest recorded weight was 225). I have not weighed myself yet since the operation as I only want to do so weekly. However, perhaps the second day after my surgery, I woke up in the morning and went to brush my teeth like always. When I looked at my face in the mirror, I could have sworn my jawline and collarbones were more pronounced. But I kind of thought I was just seeing what I wanted to see and would wait a week to weigh in before confirming anything.

Tonight (six days out) however, I was just doing the same thing at the bathroom sink before bed and there is no denying it. In less than a week I am looking better and healthier than I have in years. I have long since gotten over any self-esteem or body image issues I had when I was growing up, but nonetheless it is overwhelmingly satisfying to see my sleeve work its magic literally before my eyes. I have a ways to go (my goal weight is 140) but I feel like this day is a defining turning point.

Just wanted to share my excitement as well as get any advice you guys want to offer about the next few months (nutrition, exercise, anything) or just hear other people's stories.

I am so impressed you chose this surgery at such a young age. If I have one regret all these months out, it is that I did not get sleeved earlier.

Hang in there, every day, every week gets better. 9 months out from surgery and I feel amazing, my PCP says I am in great health, I look better and now I am not the girl with just a pretty face. Keep on track knowing the sleeve works. Welcome to the losers bench.

Haha! This is my 25th birthday present to myself as well. My birthday is August 7th and I will be sleeved September 2nd. I originally had it scheduled for August 5th but I needed the extra month for funding.

To the OP, I wish I'd been as sure at 19 as I am now that this is what I needed. Congats!

We have very similar stars! Our ages are different ( I'm 33). My start weight was 229 ( 208 on surgery day), with a goal of 140. I'm 4 months out and 2.2 pounds away from goal!!!! I highly recommend tracking your food. It's what has kept me accountable to myself. Believe in yourself!! You can do it!!

That is awesome! I know the feeling, I remember looking at myself in the mirror a few days after surgery and being amazed at the instant changes. :)

Thanks for all your support guys!

My dad, who's in his early fifties, got his sleeve 18 months ago. As soon as I saw the results with him I started thinking maybe it might be a good solution for me too. I am happy though that I am doing this at this stage in my life so that, like several of you said, I can enjoy a lifetime of good health. :)

I went and saw my nutritionist today (I saw her exactly one week ago, the day before my surgery). In the last week I have lost 13 pounds!! I'm really excited. I lost 4" around my waist and 2" around my hips. I need new clothes already......hahahaha

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
