When can we stop sipping?

Recommended Posts

I was out yesterday coming in from my check up with the surgeon and was out quite in the sun walking around and spent some time in the waiting room for my doctor. I had only my crystal light in the morning to drink. When done at the doctor's I bought a 16oz bottle of poland spring. I am in my 2nd week of liquids and found myself sipping the entire bottle in under an hour which i thought was impossible. Apparently my surgeon told me everyone responds different to the surgery and only you can know your limit. So I am wondering how did i manage to fit pretty much the entire bottle even with just sipping in under an hour.

2nd,do we have to sip for the rest of our lives or can i actually gulp liquid down in a few months?

You'll be chugging before you know it!

Maybe not slamming back half a 2-liter of Mountain Dew anymore (if you ever did that ), but easily 6 or 8 nice full gulps! Don't worry about drinking "too much" ... you can do that because it IS liquid and you must not have a ton of swelling, or maybe you're tall with a bit longer sleeve. Once you hit solid foods, even just mushies you'll be amazed by how much you can't eat. ;)

actually im short by today's standards. 5' 7 at best. Just stocky. My surgeon told me she just used a really small bougie on me. Don't know what that means?

i sipped for like the first 10-12 days then i was taking normal drinks. i can now take 2-3 sips thru a straw and swallow at a time without issue. if you take too big of a drink, it will hurt in your chest....at least it did for me!

you will not have to sip forever! :D

I'm 9 months out and I can get in 140 oz of Water a day no problem now. In time it continues to get better and better. In fact I can do 16 oz in about 5-10 minutes easy.

Just keep plugging away, and time passes and eating/drinking gets much easier!!

You have no idea how much your post just made me feel better. And this isn't even my thread! I am a heavy consumer of h20 but I used to drink it 16oz at a time every couple of hours (getting in 140-180oz per day easy) and this swallow wait swallow wait nonsense is annoying me!

I know what you mean, I love my Water and for me this was the most distressful thing for me post op. It felt like I'd never get back to normal. Though I used to be able to down 16 oz without a breath (LOL) and I may never be able to do this again, I think I'm at a point where I don't feel like I can't be normal.

It gets better folks! :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
