What type of PPI do you take for heartburn?

Recommended Posts

HI Everyone...

I am almost 6 months out and really am doing great. I have had a textbook experience up to day. The past few days I have been having heartburn after eating and I don't know if I am eating too fast but I am going to be mindful...

In the meantime, I would like a recommendation for a PPI to take. I just took a Zantac and that did nothing. (I don't think it's a PPI but it's all I had in the house).

Thanks in advance :)

Nina

Prilosec 20mg once daily was prescribed initially. Take on an empty stomach, wait 1 hour before eating, or eat and wait 2-3 hours to take the Prilosec.

All of the PPIs from the RX pamphlets I have read to wait 30-60 minutes before eating.

Zantac is an h2 blocker it works a little different than a PPI.

I am now on Nexium once daily due to a case of gastritis I had in January, and then got pregnant in February and since Prilosec is not okay'd for pregnancy, I have remained on Nexium as prescribed by my ob.

It may take a few days for the PPI to kick in fully. Gaviscon is typically the recommended remedy for breakthrough reflux until the PPI can kick in to full efficacy.

Thanks Tiff. I am going to pick up some Prilosec tomorrow and start that 14 day treatment and see how it goes after that. I also am going to be mindful of my eating, I think I have been eating too fast.

Thanks again..you're the best :)

I take the generic Prilosec, omeprazole. Works just as well for me and saves me a few $$ at the drugstore.

I take the generic for Protonix. I tried to go off of it but had too much heartburn . Now I take it every other day. That works great for me.

I agree with all the sleevers...taking Omeprazole (20mg) 15min to 30min before your meal should do the trick. Take this dose twice a day and you should feel much better. You SHOULD NOT take more than 40mg of Omeprazole per day. I have always prescribed this regimen to my patients and it works perfectly.

Let me know how this works out for you!!

Best,

Dr. JSA

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
