3 days post op and only drank 15 oz

Recommended Posts

I'm really worried about my Fluid intake. I've only been able to get in 15 oz. I hope to get to 20 before bed but I'm pretty full. I spoke with my doctor today and he didn't seemed to concerned. He said I have enough fluids in me from the IV that I should be good for a few days until the swelling goes down.

I'm just wondering if anyone else experienced this? They want me to be up to 40oz soon.

I don't think I got in 15 oz. on the third day! From my journal, I got in 42 oz on day 5: 12 oz Decaf tea, two 11 oz Protein Shakes, and 8 oz of Water. It took all day to get it in, too. It was just sip, burp, walk, sip, burp, walk for about two weeks, until I could have thick liquids.< /p>

It is SO hard. Don't come down on yourself. It will get easier. It took me weeks to get in my fluids. And I still don't get them all every day even 3 months out. I try, especially in this hot weather, but it is difficult some days. You are still so swollen and it will get better with each day. The key this early out is to sip continuously all day. If you don't you won't make it, because you can't take big swallows at all right now.

Good luck to you and just do the best you can. Sip all daysmile.gif

I'm 12 days out. A week ago I was still getting only about 16 oz and worried about it. I was definitely getting dehydrated. With the wise advice of many people on the site, I up'd it to 32 oz a day and am feeling so much better. It has given me more energy too. Do the sip sip sip all day as everyone suggests, it works, gulping just gives me uncomfortable air bubbles. I'm trying to up my number to 48oz tomorrow. I was drinking straight H2O, but went and bought some Crystal Light today to see if that helps me get it down. Good luck to you!

I am four days postop today and I am not measuring my intake. I am going more on whether my urine is clear and light in color and if i am going potty a minimum of two to three times a day. Thus far I hit those benchmarks without a problem and have not really stressed about how much fluids I am getting in. I have a sports bottle I sip on constantly all day. I never feel hungry (so weird!) or thirsty, so I just sip every few minutes. Thus far i think I am doing fine.

Try sipping warm fluids as this helped tremendously immediately with Fluid intake.

My goal was 2oz every minutes, and over an 8 hour period that gave me the 64oz of clear fluids.

It does get better. If your urine turns super dark, your eyes feel dry, or when you pinch the skin on the back of your hand and it doesn't rebound immediately, please don't hesitate to call your doctor. Dehydration can lead to nausea, and other issues that make the post-op healing period miserable.

Yes, this is totally normal. I dont think I was able to get in 15oz until maybe week 2 or 3. I had a lot of swelling but my dr said it was fine as long as I didnt get dehydrated. And I didnt... so, I dont think you have anything to worry about! Just do your best. I did sip on warm chicken broth more than I did Water, and that seemed to help a lot!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
