Day 4 Post OP - farts and poop oh my

Recommended Posts

Finally farted and pooped and felt relief from gas pain :) There is still a bunch of rumbling going on, but I know I will poop again soon. So right now the only pain I have is from the two incisions on the left...you looking at me...my right. They aren't easing up. I still can not drink much of anything, but I found that Water actually goes down the easiest. sipping is no problem because i take myself back to childhood. I used to poke a little hole in a soda can and drink the whole thing through this tiny little hole. I was really tired today, but once I got some Protein in I felt better. I need to really find some shakes that taste good or where i can make mini ones with my own powder so i don't let it sit too long. I am just drinking clear Protein Drinks. I maybe feel a little acid down there, but nothing too bad. I am feeling pretty good today even with the pain. I do sill take the pain meds..they just help to take the edge off. I bought a belt you wrap around your tummy to hold in my gut and that helps with the pain, All in all i feel sort of good. I maybe am hungry, but not sure if it is acid. i wish could just try some applesauce now, but i will be ok. the hunger or acid isn't that bad where i find myself about to lose it. so that is my update. still at home. i have to go to work on Monday so I am going to cherish these next two days and hope that the incision pain does away.

I was sleeved on the same day as you. My doctor told me to crush a Prilosec and take 1 a day for at least 3 months. So far I haven't had any problem with acid. Like you I had the whole G A S situation. All I can say is UGH. I finally started getting some relief yesterday. If you think you might be having an issue with acid I would ask your dr about an acid blocker. Good luck!!!

I was sleeved 6/6/11 and still have incision pain at my big incision. I spoke to my Dr today (he actually calls me every couple days) and he said it was normal. Just pop a pain pill if I needed it - which I haven't. Sounds like you are doing pretty good! I will be happy when I get to mushy foods... I am so tired of pops and cream Soup hahah!!

I was sleeved June 15. The tried to let me leave the hospital June 16 but my wife wasn't having it and it was a good thing. I had terrible gas pain, in fact the gas pain was worse than the incision pain.... I had to have a soap and Water enema then a milk and molasses enema. Not fun but it did do the trick. I got out yesterday and haven't had a bm yet but I have been farting. Never been so grateful for farting in my life lol. I am drinking pretty good and am holding stuff down. I don't really care hot the stuff tastes I just drink it because I know I need it. It's only a week until pureed foods so I know I can make it.

hang in there guys, it gets better I promise! It's been hard on me because of the acid issue but I'm taking 20mg of Nexium 3 times a day and Gaviscon (this stuff is mana from heaven for acid but DOES contain magnesium which makes ya poop!) for when it gets way bad. It seemed like just when I was giving up hope and living off of Gatorade G2 I discovered the secret of Gaviscon and then magically the heartburn subsided LOL

It's very hard at first and yeah, there are a few tender spots on the belly but by week 2 the pain just seemed to vanish and I was ok again. I've heard other people say it happened just that fast, like a light switch and then "huh...I'm ok again!" but I didn't believe it until it happened to me. This isn't the easy way out, but we all knew that going in so it's no surprise. The most important thing is keep hydrated because that will make you sicker than a dog (where the hell did that expression come from anyway? It's rediculous! LOL) and then the Protein. I can't seem to tolerate any Protein shakes or drinks but one and I'm clinging to that like a lifeline right now.

On the up side..I've lost 31 pounds since the day of surgery and my shorts are hanging off my butt and my rings are spinning on my fingers and I couldn't be happier :D

hi-

6/13 sleeved

doing better than I expected-

some post op chest congestion, cough and runny nose-

still not much into doing anything, I did walk for about 20 minutes and sat in sun another 10.

had diarrhea 2 days in a row, and my tummy is a rumbling again... I don't mind- better than the alternative... Constipation.< /p>

start of day 5 and my sleep pattern is wac, up again at 4 am, yesterday 3 am.

maybe I can get my wife to take me to the coast today... going stir crazy...

as far as food- just don;t rush it... room temps are best, and ya don't have to finish that last bite...

hard to toss that pudding cup or apple sauce away when there is just a bite or two left...

My parents taught me well, NOT... I was feeling like a stuffed turkey...

today I will have a combi- 1 scoop strawberry- 1 scoop chocolate shake.

:) life doesn't get any better than that first week!

and just looked at calendar- due for a road trip next week- still on liquids... ought to be fun,

have my handy dandy strainer - yes I will have a cup of Soup, extra bowl...

my wife will finish it and the tip is bigger than the check...

she made a quesadilla yesterday- boy did that smell good...

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
