everywhere i turn there's food: tv, movies, magazines, books. yummy recipes. i saw on tv a hamburger and i was salivating! i don't even like hamburgers. i'm 6 days post op and is on clear liquids. i went grocery shopping yesterday for more Soup and it was agony :( everything look so good, even the seaweeds for the sushis lol. meanwhile i can't make myself it the Jello in my fridge. i've never been so aware of food before, even when i've dieted before. i put a piece of cooked chicken in mouth yesterday and suck the juices out of it, that is so pitiful. i have 4 more days of clears. God give me strength

I haven't gotten sleeved yet, but I can tell you that 3yrs ago when I quit smoking I felt the same way... I seemed like when I smoked I was the only one in the world smoking, but as soon as I quit I felt like everybody was smoking... Hang in there.

It will get better. It is unreal how much food is pushed in front of us. I am 16 days out and I am happy to say that food does taste different! I treat it differently. I am happy that I start feeling uncomfortable when I have had too much. And too much is "nothing" and I am so happy!

I explained it to the dr at my 2 week post-op

Food is just mental now...not really physical. As I keep dropping pounds I will no longer desire food. I know I have found the next best thing to having my mouth wired shut.

I actually blogged about this after my surgery, it was like a weird WOW moment where I realized that I was no longer a slave to food and it was now all mine to do with what *I* wanted. I want every single morsel I put in my mouth to be amazing because I can only put a tiny bit in. It will happen to you too, it just takes a bit. But yes, I was about a week out, maybe a bit more and it was like SHAZAM! HA! take that evil food! LOL

I think I watched food network for 2 weeks straight following my surgery. Don't know why, it was kind of strange. It didn't last long. The fixation on food does diminish, at least for me it did. I think once I was able to start soft foods, that was the turning point. Being able to chew and swallow kind of put things back to normal. Good luck!

I guess everyone goes through this. I did too, I was constantly looking at the world according to eggface's recipies to see what I could have once I was able to start mushies and softs. When I started on the softs it all seemed to stop. Now I can eat what I want and I don't want it. One thing is for sure and absolutely true, your tastebuds do change, I used to HATE hamburger and mushrooms, now I love them!

It will get better! I was the same way, especially the first couple of weeks. I wasn't prepared for how much effort I had to put into the post-op part of the surgery. I was thinking about everything constantly and it drove me crazy. I wanted to eat real food so bad. Now that I am almost done with my 30 days that my doctor requires for Clear Liquids, full liquids and soft foods, it is so much better. I don't think about food all the time anymore. I know I can have a bite of something and feel fine. For me it was more I couldn't have it so I wanted it even more! Now that I can have tastes of things I am good.

Just remember it does get better and you can do this! Soon you will be able to eat again!

i had my surgery with dr aceves also. for some reason, despite all the research i did before the surgery, it never hit on me it would be 30 days before i could eat "regular" food.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
