April Bandits, It's July!!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi Girls!!

It sounds like all of you are doing great! I am with Julie on the Propel, that is my saving grace to liquid! The berry, manderaine orange and grape are my fav's. If you have an Albertsons in your city, they are $1.00 each right now. As for my weight loss, I am doing well. I was banded on 4-3-06 and I have lost 50-53lbs. Some days I have hit the 229 mark and others I am back at 232! I have told myself I need to only weigh on Fridays at the gym in the morning! I just love the fact that I can dry my clothes and know that they will fit the next time I put them on! My energy level has sky rocketed and I can FINALLY keep up with my energetic baby girls (age 1 and 5). This is defenitly a journey worth taking and I am so glad I have the support of my family and this great networking of "internet" friends! My goal is to be down 85-100lbs by next April!! I am half way there!!

Hello everyone

Well, the last few weeks have been a serious standstill, but that has been my own fault. Theatre style popcorn and ice cream, yikes. Got my third fill today, hoping I finally get restriction. Up till now it has all been my effort to lose. I am ready for the band to start helping cause I'm tired of carrying the whole load. It sounds like everyone is doing well though, grats to all of you on your losses :D

Hi everyone, I have been on a 2 week break up to Atlanta, Georgia to see my family and my one year old niece, it was very exciting, she is soooo cute. She is one of the reasons I have embarked on this journey as I don't want her to have a fat aunt! Boy, was it hot up that way though, in the 100's, quite unbearable, I feel I must have sweated off ten pounds alone (no I didn't )!

I have another appointment tomorrow, think I may have a small fill, it was very hard staying with someone for 2 weeks, as they noticed my eating habits were quite different and they love to drink wine with their food. I think they suspect something, but I wasn't telling, didn't find the right moment.

How is everyone else doing?

XX Amourette:D

Just pluggin' along here. Aiming for my 1-2 lbs a month but I seem to really have to work for it. I eat well and as always, I exercise like a demon. I try not get discouraged.

My next fill (4th one but really only 3rd one since the first one didn't go in) isn't until 25 Aug....they are doing it at the hospital under fluor this time. I wish it was sooner...but will hang in there!

Good luck everyone on your continued journey!

Was thinking about your aim of 1 pound a month, is that the right figure, I am suppose to lose around 6-8 pounds a month........?:phanvan I am so curious to see how much I weigh today, sure I won't have lost anything!:huggie:

Hey Yoda and Amourette,

Yoda I guess you are talking about losing 1-2 pounds of fat only right?

Hi everyone. I am going along slowly. I have my 3 month follow-up appointment today, and I am going to ask for another fill. I am eating less, but I wouldn't say that I am restricted by any means.

I have had one fill so far. He put 2.4 cc in my 4.0 cc band. I felt restriction for the first week (maybe not even that long), and now I feel very, very little. It is better than before I had my fill though where I felt like I could eat like I did preband.

My general trend is going down; although, I do fluctuate, and it is so discouraging to see a number pop up on the scale that you had thought you had passed two weeks ago. I hope everyone continues to do well on their band journey!

I just found the April Bandsters' July thread today! I don't know where my head was at, because, yes, I did go looking for it on more than one occasion.

It's my three-month bandiversary, and I've just passed the 50-lb. mark!! (All since the day of surgery, since my Dr. didn't require any pre-op diet.) I'm so damned pleased with the band AND so proud of myself for staying committed to small portions and smart choices. I'm off all my diabetes meds and feeling great.

Although I experienced several restriction "events" after the second fill, they were all caused, I think, by my own sloppiness in eating, e.g., too much, too fast. So I went ahead with a third fill, today, and am hoping that the increased restriction will allow me to feel full after eating, and also help with the hunger I still feel, especially late at night -- yep, that's when I miss food the most.

You have done fantastic, my biggest loss was with the pre-surgery diet..............

Yoda!!!.......glad to hear that is per week, was thinking wow, at that rate it will take you years hehehe!

I had another fill yesterday, struggling with thick liquids at moment, so I will wait a couple of days and see if it gets any better........today I had to fly and I felt quite tight, hardly ate all day, but wasn't hungry either...hmmmm:phanvan

Yes, I had only lost less than a kilo, but the nurse said that was ok, since I was on holiday and hadn't gained at least.

How was everyones day today??

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
