I'm so happy for you! I'll be right behind you, June 23. I'm so up and down about it. I find myself constantly thinking, "why am I doing this?" Well, of course I want to live again and be happy. But I can't help but feel doom! As if that might be my last day here on earth. :( Does anyone else deal with these feelings?

I did start my pre-op diet 8 days ago and it was super hard the first 3 or so days but now, of course I would love to have real food but it isn't driving me crazy. My actual pre-op class is tomorrow.

I am also excited, nervous, all kind of things going on. But I am totally ready to get this started. No pre op diet for me, doctor says liquids only day before. Only two weeks away it is so surreal that it is finally gonna happen!

I have not had to do any sort of pre-op diet either. I think all Drs. are different in that regard. I understand all the mix of emotions. Just keep telling yourself this is all for better health, better quality of life.

I just want to be able to ice skate with my kids, they are all hockey players. Or jog with them or even just play tag! At the weight I am now that all seems close to impossible!

Have you all started any sort of exercise routine? I have been walking, a lot and I feel great from that! I need the help with portions... which why I opted for the sleeve.

This is all so exciting!!!

Gosh, I'm so glad that I'm not the only one. I nearly cried tonight thinking about it but went to look at some before and after pictures. For that moment infelt better seeing that those people were still alive. I've had surgery before but it was unexpected. I only had a day or two to worry about my doom. Lol And I did have a major crying episode the night before but I had no choice. I'm really struggling now because I do have a choice. I'm doing this to myself and what if I'm the one that has terrible complications??!!?? Ugh! This is huge and life changing. I'm excited about where this will lead me and I doubt seriously that I would cancel but I'm still scared! it didn't help that my mom called yesterday and informed me of all the horrible things that could go wrong. And that what would happen to my 7 yo son if something happened to me!?!? I knew I shouldn't have told her. She was mostly okay with it at first until she started surfing the Internet for information. I didn't need that. Believe me, I'm well informed of complications and this wasn't an easy decision for me.

I'll stop rambling! Thanks for listening.

Sometimes it helps me to think about all the pre op testing that we had to go through. I was thinking about this just yesterday. I had back surgery 2 years ago and I wasn't screened as carefully back then as I was for this surgery. I mean they have tested me for everything, I have had a sleep study, scope, chest x-ray, blood work, stress test, and EKG, so they have made sure that we are fit for surgery. And of course there is always putting our faith in the hands of something greater. Everything happens for a reason, and we've been given this opportunity to do something with it. What sort of liquids will you be allowed on your pre op diet? I have 4 diabetic Boosts or Glucerna per day. Up to 1200 cal, 60-80 gm Protein, and 100-130 gm of carbohydrates I am allowed broth, fat free yogurt, Jello and pudding and popsicles to make up to the 1200 cal. It's not too bad, I like to blend them with skim milk makes them taste more like chocolate milkshakes mmmmm.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
