3 months out and it is still funny

Recommended Posts

Today I was not able to go home for lunch so I stopped into the deli in my office building. I know there is almost nothing for me to eat there. Correction: there are things I can eat, but they don't offer half portions of anything so it's a major waste of food / money to eat there. Anyway, I buy the cheapest thing on the menu - chicken Teriyaki with Rice. I know I will be able to eat the chicken and I can throw the rest out.

So, they give me the container - its a massive square foam container. I pop it open and LITERALLY there is enough to feed a normal family of 3. I chuckled to myself and walked back to my desk. Opened the container again. I still can't believe how much they stuffed into this thing. I ate about 5 bites of chicken, one bite of squash, and a small mushroom. It didn't look like it had been touched - not a dent!!!

I don't know what's funnier - the huge portion or the fact that I still only eat 5 bites of anything!!!

Loving my sleeve :-)

Haha, that is so funny. I am like you, I can't believe how little I eat now and feel sooo full. Me, my mother and sister went to eat at Chili's the other night and I ordered a cup of chili (none of the other Soup looked good to me) and I felt like I ate for what seemed like 30 minutes and I looked down and the chili was barely below the rim of the cup. I just could not believe it. By the way, that chili doesn't hold a candle to Wendy's chili in my opinionbiggrin.gif

I know I shouldn't drink when I eat, but sometimes I have to take a tiny sip before or after a meal, so I ordered a tea and what is so funny, or rather, so sad is that my chili cost $2.99 and the freakin' tea cost $2.39....how wrong is that?!?

Isn't it funny how sensitive you become to the prices now? Luckily I always go out with my partner and/or my daughter so I can always split something. It's eating out alone that causes the most anxiety. It's harder to hide the miniscule bites of food and harder to justify buying any food for yourself. I am always trying to get my friends to go to Chinese or Asian restaurants where the dishes are more family style. That way I can pick a little bit and I don't have a conspicuous plate all to myself. Honestly, I just don't eat out that nmch anymore - I'd rather nibble on something at home or something I bring in my purse.

Yeah, drinks are a rip off.

So excited for your success, Sleeve Sister!!

Loving my sleeve :-)

That really made me laugh! I can't wait to be able to say WOW that is TOO BIG of a portion! My pre-sleeve life was pretty much super sized; which led me to this point. But one thing I have noticed since I started my shake pre op diet is the amount of food everyone eats. I sit here sipping on my shake and think WOW did I eat like that? Well ok ok I also think YUMMM can I have some?!?! LOL

Thanks for sharing your story! I think it is wonderful to hear about the little things that will make this whole process worth it (well besides the weight loss LOL)!!!!

:cheer2:

I did the same thing today...bought lunch in my work cafeteria and ended up throwing away 90% of it. Normally I bring my lunch but I forgot to pick it up this morning. It IS still a shock at how little food I can eat at one time. I am definitely not complaining! :D

Sounds awesome! I can't wait to have that problem! My mom and I (we are both getting sleeved) are already looking forward to how much cheaper our grocery bill is going to be!

For the past 2 weeks, I have only spent about $55 at the store. I use to spend about $120 or more. Isn't that crazy!! It is just my husband and I. I am still on pureed foods and only eating about 3 bites of anything, so it will go up later, but I am amazed that my bill was cut in more than half!

Love it!

Kelly :)

The grocery bill is a huge change for us, but the restaurant bill has become almost non-existent. I buy food for my partner and our daughter, I only buy servings for2 because I literally only eat 5 bites - no matter what. They are eating healthier too because I only buy Protein and veggies. We average $50 a week for a family of 3 - that incudes all my lunch / Snacks that I carry around all day.

Amazing...

I watch my fam eat & I think "what gluttons". Memorial Day cookout I managed to eat 1/2 a grilled burger patty and slice of Tomato while they scarfed down burgers & dogs :) One thing for certain- I'm cooking healthier and more often!! I skipped lunch out with the girls today- I'd rather eat my cottage cheese than waste $ on a less healthy alternative. I'm glad other sleevers "get it"!!!

Thanks for all the responses! I love reading everyone else's stories. It really makes you realize how much we used to eat before.

Best of luck to all!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
