Well I did it, cheated my a** off today, 14 days post

Recommended Posts

So...

yeah, bean and cheese burrito from Taco Bell (Toxic Hell) and it was soooooooo good. Then hubby and I went out and today . We went to a Russian restaurant and I had the Varanenki (Perogi). I ate like six. Potato cheese dumplings with a butt load of sour cream and caramelized onions on top.

I feel like a failure today. Why did I do this to myself? I think it was the 14 day of Clear Liquids that did it to me.

* sigh *

If I were you I would just pick myself up , dust myself off, and continue to follow directions. Wow- Clear Liquids? No Protein shakes even? That seems very extreme- even I have been on thin liquids- Protein drinks, clear liquids, and thinned Soups and yogurt. You must be starving- no Protein , no carbs? I don' think I have seen a requirement that extreme- when do you get to move forward and to what?

I had two weeks of liquid pre surgery, and am finishing three weeks thin liquids post. It seems bizarre not to require you to do something to get protein! No wonder you snapped ;-P

I do notice that you wrestle with yourself a bit- you might want to consider seeing a nutritionist or counselor to talk about the things that lead you down the garden path so to speak!

Did you feel restriction at any point? I am amazed that your very first food ever since surgery went down so easily....but maybe the dumplings were tiny!

Just get right back on track tomorrow.

On a side note.....I really have no idea idea how you were able to eat an entire bean/cheese burrito and six perogi's 14 days after surgery. I see most people on here struggling to get about 1/4 cup of food in. This isn't a criticism....I mean I seriously don't get how its possible unless your sleeve was made very large or you healed very very quickly.

Tomorrow is a new day. Start fresh again tomorrow.

You have got to be careful, especially so early out. Truthfully I'm not sure I could eat that much at 3 months out, nor would I try.

Like its said so many times on here, just because you can eat it, does not mean you should.

I am 4 1/2 weeks out and can eat a cup of food at one sitting. I don't think I could get 6 perogies though. Did you feel the restriction? You should be careful you dont want to hurt that staple line it is still relatively fresh. And like everyone said, one day does not ruin a lifestyle. Get back on the band wagon girl! You can do it, I promise!

Are you sleeved? I guess it does say 14 days post- I can not even imagine eating that much - I eat 1/2 cup of anything and throw up- I am only 4 weeks out tho-

ANYWAYS- Like the others said- TODAY IS A NEW DAY! There is nothing you can do about it now except learn and forget about it- Take care!!

I'm thinking this sounds like a pre-op food funeral. I hope you're not post-op and shoveling all that food into a healing stomach.

It's done and over with, you can take the calories back, no need for guilt or a pity party over it. Just accept it and move forward.

I'm glad you are feeling so well post-op, but you should take it easy... you need to be eating small amounts of really soft foods right now so your stomach can heal properly.... take care!! I'm worried about you!

What size bougie does your dr use? No judgement here but that is a lot of food for 14 days post op. And it IS dangerous to eat outside of your post op guidelines simply due to the fact that your sleeve may not be giving you true full signals yet because of cut nerves and such.

I am 14 days post op today. I am not hungry, but yes some things look and smell wonderful! But I grab something I can have and distract myself from the "food lust" by reading here or walking.

The amount of food you had is concerning because you don't want to compromise your staple line and cause a leak. If you cannot resist temptation, maybe just a few bites would satisfy you. Not many people a yr out even eat a whole burrito, tortilla and all. I am curious like the others, did you feel restriction? When you are able to have these things, you may want to measure everything out. And are you on a PPI? I find this helps with the "false hunger" rumblings.

Try to get back on track and maybe avoid food situations till you get your head around it and feel stronger. Restaurants aren't the best place for us right now. You can do this, and you know what you have to do!!

Well.....

I'd reccomend staying out of the restaurants and drive throughs. And your husband needs to support your decision to have this surgery to begin with. Ask him to PLEASE help you make healthy meals at home. You both will feel so much better and you will lose so much weight.

STAY STRONG

There are a couple of concerns here, but the biggest one is the potential for you to rupture your suture line and get a leak, which can be fatal. Please take better care of yourself and as one wise poster above suggested, see this as a HUGE red flag and get to a nutritionist and psychologist. There is no shame in needing help and additional support!

Ironically, I could eat a lot more early post-op than I can now, because I could not at all "feel" when I was full. So I am sure I overate a couple of times then. You should be super careful the first month or two to really eat only a certain amount, as you can damage your wee tummy.

I had a bean and cheese burrito last week for dinner, homemade (no Taco Bell here, waaaaahhhhhh), and could not even eat half of it, after I tore away a lot of the extra tortilla. And I ate small cheese raviolis for dinner last week as well, and could only eat four of them, they were smaller than pierogi. (Maybe the Russian ones are really much smaller than other pierogi?) Anyhow, I am three months post-op, so that's just for comparison.

I hope you are doing okay and can get the eating under control, I would hate to see you hurt yourself somehow.

I'd sure go back to soft and only healthy foods for a few more weeks. I couldn't begin to eat that much and I'm 7 weeks out. I had a baked potato and fishsticks but again, at 7 weeks. I could never have eaten what you did at 4 weeks. Back on the wagon you go!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
