Hey there my name is italian Lady. I'm getting sleeved as soon as possible! I had a consultation with a sugeon last week and went in thinking that I was going to get the lap band and scared to DEATH of spending the rest of my life vomiting! UNTIL he informed me of a new and improved operation called the sleeve. So now i'm hunting around for a surgeon (I live in the UAE) who can give me the appropriate surgery. So is it Gastric Sleeve Plication or just a vertical sleeve. If anyone has any tips or advice for me I would greatly appreciate it!!! Thanks!

Gastric sleeve and sleeve plication are two differant surgeries. In the sleeve 85 percent of the somach is removed creating a sleeve. In the plication the stomach is folded in on itself and sutured in that position to creat the sleeve. There are pros and cons to both

Really??? I read that the only difference is that it is stiched instead of stapled and that it is reversable??? I wonder how I got that Idea:) My surgeon says that the sleeve is the best option for me and he didn't recommend the plication. WHATEVER I have done I hope it's done soon! I'm sick of being fat and feeling bad about myself and not feeling healthy at all!

Welcome!!

You have come to the right place for support and knowledge. Everyone on here is very supportive and caring. I would just take some time and research. I did for 15 months before I had my surgery. I knew the in's and out's and had a plan. I was not scared because I was very well educated on this procedure.

Don't be afraid to ask questions on here. You will find people from every stage of the process. Pre-op to years out. There isn't a question you could ask that someone can't answer and chances are, you will get multiple answers!

Just take some time and puruse the forum. Then jump in and make yourself know! You will find that we don't bite and are very friendly!

Best of luck to you in your journey!!

Kelly ;)

In the plication non of te stomach is removed, in the standard sleeve 85 percent of stomach is resected (removed) there are some emitted to it. "grehlin" tge hirmon responsible for hunger signals to the brain are secreted in the portion of stomach that is removed. There by in theory removing the hunger mechanism. I am only 2 weeks out from a sleeve an there is no hunger. However the theory is also that pressure against the stomach lining stop secretion, so tge pressure of being folded and sutured keep production at a low.

i have been super happy with my decision for the sleeve. I occasionally get hungry, but not like before surgery. I am usually full after three or four bites of something and have lost sixty plus pounds. Whoo hoo

Hello and welcome!

I am having my surgery on 7/12. I am very comfortable with the idea of having the sleeve. Although the other procedure was an option, I don't want the procedure to be reversible! I want a lifelong tool. I think if I knew it could be reversed, it would not be as effective for me mentally.

Blessings,

Leslie

I was sleeved on 4/27 and it was the best thing I ever did for my health. I would highly recomend what Kelly said and do your research on both to see which option is best for you. This forum has helped me with all the support and information I have received. I am sure it will help you too. Best of luck!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
