It seems that most of the folks on here have a much more restrictive post-op plan then mine. I was on Clear Liquids for 3 days and then full liquids until day 14 (this Thursday). After that its mushies until I am one month out, then whatever I want. I seems like almost everyone else is on liquids & mushies much longer. I went to a very experienced surgeon in Louisiana and this is the way he has done it succesfully for a long time. It just worries me as I have had no problems at all to this point. I dont want to screw it all up by starting to eat too soon. Your thoughts?

Hi-

I know that my post op directions from my surgeon in MX were SO much more strict than the directions I received from Kaiser in my follow up appointments. Kaiser follows the Cornell WLS eating guidelines. Most doctors in the US try to follow some medically documented precedent, like the Cornell guide.

I think that is is safe to have mushies that early, as long as you can tolerate it. I had a terrible time with the Protein drinks and I had to get moving with some cottage cheese a little earlier than my surgeon wanted me to. I was wasting away and needed the Protein / calories. Follow your doctors guidelines, measure your food, chew it really well, and see what feels good to your tummy.

There are a few threads out there debating why the post op instructions are so varied. I don't think there was a definitive answer :-)

Lara

I was on clears for 3 days then full liquids up to day 14, I was actually supposed to do that up to 21 days but I just couldn't so I started the blended portion 1 week early and will remain on that up to day 24 and then on to soft / mushie foods. I have tolerated everything , other than the chewable vit. that the hospital sent home with me, so I have felt confident with what I'm eating. I don't recommend following my example because I didn't follow my Dr.s guidelines like I should have, I've just been very fortunate that I have had no problems and am losing weight.

I'm having sugery next month with a Lousiana surgeon. If you don't mind me asking you did you use? Your post op plan sounds alot like mine.

You'll be fine. As long as your doc is experienced and like you say he has had success with this then have faith in him. . . we are all different, and each doc likes to do their own thing, so just i did it one way and so and so did it another, doesn't mean it's cookie cutter. . . the main thing is we all end up with the same goal "getting rid of the obesity" . . . good luck and continue to follow your doctors advice. . .

I used Dr Bellenger in Gonzales. Im from Wisconsin & am a self pay. He has the Blis coverage for self payers which was important to me. I understand that he is one of their best covered surgeons. Since he has been using Blis they have not made a claim for a complication. For my sake I hope the streak continues! Good Luck!

Your plan sounds the same as mine ....

full liquids 2 weeks pre op

clears for 2 1/2 days post op

fulls until docs visit almost 2 weeks from surgery date

now on mushies until the 4th week is over.

Then what I can handle.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
