Maryland Support Groups?

Recommended Posts

I'm having the most frustrating time trying to find local support groups as required as part of my pre-op process (and I desperately WANT a long-term support group in place before I go ahead)... my surgeon's office, located in Bethesda, has a list of 3 or 4 support groups in that area, but that's a bit of a commute for me (not a long one, mind you, but in DC area traffic, I want to stroke out every time I have to drive there. LOL)... I'm having to go back and forth for these appointments, so it'd be nice to have a nice, relaxing support group locally. I found info for one online, but I e-mailed the lady and she said they stopped having it when they lost their location, and everywhere else is exclusive to their own patients... not a general support group.

So, does anyone have any ideas? My worst case scenario is that I'll just go to one of these others on the surgeon's list. No huge deal... I'd just rather stay closer to home with this one, given that most meetings are in the evenings...

I live in Southern Maryland (Calvert County) and I am having the same problem. I would like to have a group to spend time with pre-op and post-op. My hospital is Johns Hopkins, and it is 2 hours away from where I live. They have support groups there, but they start at, like, 5:00. I work until 5:30 as it is, and can't keep taking time off for meetings, ya know? Let me know if you find anything here in Southern Maryland! Good Luck on your journey. Mine is just starting!

Of course! We would love to hear your story and everything you went through and how your doing now... The group is very open. Our nutritionist runs the group and she has guest speakers... Feb we are having a personal trainer, march meeting a plastic surgeon is coming so we can discuss the ...Excess skin issue. I say come on! We are even thinking of adding additional meets per month as the group grows... We had a new person join us who had surgery at Johns Hopkins bay view.

That is not legit. Nobody shows up or even replies to anything. I left a message and told them that it is ridiculous to say that you have this group and never get any support at all....Don't even bother with that, a waste of time.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
