Recommended Posts

Its been a week since I had the VSG done, and it very hard to stick to liquid diet for week. I been doing really well with my Protein intake and also taking my mult-Vitamins. However I have been craving for sweets a week after my surgery. Can anyone please give me any advice on how I can control this

If I only knew myself because I still can't get rid of my sweet tooth and artificial sweetener or sugar free Popsicles just don't cut it for me. I've handled it by fixing me a sweet drink (pineapple and cherry juice ice cold with a straw) or sometimes buying a slushie. Yeah it has sugar and carbs, but at least it is fat free and it is way better than how I used to satisfy my sweet tooth. Also, having a sweet drink or slushie hasn't slowed down my weight loss any at all and it satisfies me. I know a lot of other people on here wouldn't even dare have that, but you gotta find something that works for you without sabotaging your weight loss and that is what works for me :-)

repeat after me:

I must not eat sugar.

Sugar is the body killer.

Sugar is the little death that brings total obliteration

I will face my sugar cravings.

I will permit them pass over and through me.

And when it has gone past, I will turn my eyes to see its path.

Where the sugar craving has gone, there will be nothing.

Only I will remain.

(feeling really proud pulling a "Dune" reference into a topic like this. Heh.)

To get my Calcium in and to satisfy my craving for something sweet, I use the Bariatric Advantage calcium chews. The chocolate is so much like eating a tootsie roll and the raspberry is like eating a starburst. A daily dose is 4!

During the first month, I would also stick my finger in the Peanut Butter jar.

Now, a little over three months out, I keep dark chocolate on hand and eat a square here and there.

Honestly, I think the best way to get rid of sugar cravings is to avoid eating sugar or anything sweet completely for a week or more. I think that's tough during the early months because you have to eat the Protein Shakes. But, for now, maybe just try to let the sugar cravings pass or find a decent sugar-free substitute. I really like Jello sugar free pudding for a sweet craving. The texture is awesome, and there's some Protein, too!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
